These Same Skies: 5-Day Devotional With Hillsong Worship

DAY 2 OF 5

FREEDOM These Same Skies Devotional Aodhan King | Day 2 “I have freedom, I have freedom Thank You Jesus, I am free” The moment we decide to follow Jesus and accept His salvation is the very same moment we begin to experience the freedom that knowing Him brings. Have you ever stopped to think about what it means to be free? Or what we’ve been freed from? What does it look like to allow the freedom of Christ to rule in our hearts? The first thing I’d love for you to consider today is that the freedom we have in Christ is available to us regardless of whether we think we deserve it or not. Ephesians 2:8 says “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” Knowing this truth empowers us to walk through every season of life with a sense of gratefulness and confidence. We can trust that no matter how we feel, there is nothing we can do to change the fact that we are free in Christ. “My life is a rescue story” When Jesus died in place of us, He took with Him all our sin and shame and in exchange, gave us access to eternal life. No longer are we slaves to sin, but through Christ we have the strength to overcome. Life can be difficult and often we can feel powerless in the face of sin and the challenges and temptations that come along with it, but Paul reminds us in Romans 6:14 that, “sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.” Be encouraged today that regardless of how challenging life is at times, we have already been “saved out of the enemies plans’’ as we sing in the song, and no longer does sin need to rule over us. Allowing freedom to rule our hearts and direct our steps begins with aligning ourselves with the Spirit of the Lord. We read in 2 Corinthians 3:17 that, “the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom,” a timeless truth that we declare in this song. It’s also important to remind ourselves that we have been set free not for ourselves, but for others and for the work of the Lord. So, I encourage you to take time today to give thanks to the Lord for all that He has rescued you from and stay in His presence; that is where His freedom will overflow. Remember that Christ has set us free and through His Name, you are empowered to walk in victory over sin and every attack that comes against you; and may all the glory be to Jesus our Saviour and Redeemer. Reflection & Application: Pause for a few moments to reflect on this thought—our freedom is found in the presence of Jesus. As we abide in Him, we find true and everlasting freedom. What areas of your life need freedom? Are you battling with sins that seem unbreakable? Do you struggle with health challenges and reports that appear final? Perhaps you’re being spiritually attacked and can’t see a way out. Whatever your circumstances, take this moment to remind yourself of the power of the Name of Jesus and be still in His presence where your freedom comes. Prayer: Jesus, you are my Deliverer, my Provider and my ever-present help. I come to You, resting boldly in Your presence, believing that Your grace is sufficient for my situation today. I ask that You will free me from the bondages and attacks of the enemy and that You give me strength and courage to follow You into freedom, today and every day. I commit my life to Your plans, and I pray that Your kingdom come and Your will be done on this earth and in my life. In Jesus’ might name, amen!
