Now Streaming Week 2: HamiltonSample

As one of the most popular musicals of all time, Hamilton chronicles Founding Father Alexander Hamilton's rise from orphaned immigrant to King's College (now Columbia University) scholar to George Washington's right-hand man in the Revolutionary War. It also chronicles his fatal flaws, which lead to public humiliation, the untimely death of his son, and ultimately his own death. In the face of constant challenges and obstacles, Hamilton repeatedly revisits a core refrain, "I am not throwin' away my shot." Some things are worth repeating over and over and over again. God's truth is one of those things. As parents, the things we repeat become the foundation of our children's worldview, and the repetition itself is part of building that foundation. In the book of Deuteronomy, God tells His people to establish reminders about His law, authority, and faithful guidance and deliverance so that the next generation will not forget. "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up" (Deuteronomy 6:6-7). That's a lot of repetition. God knows that we are quick to forget Him. As parents, our constant following after the Lord serves to train up our children in the way they should go (see Proverbs 22:6). Don't throw away your shot at influencing your own children or grandchildren—or any child in your life—to know God and grow in obedience to Him. This week, find fresh ways to be continually reminded of God's Word and allow it to guide and direct your life. Your children will surely notice and, as that Proverb concludes, "when he is old he will not depart from it."
