Aaron and Hur “I would be remiss if I did not tell you about a group of women who went the extra mile. They were to me what Aaron and Hur were to Moses when the nation of Israel faced the armies of Amalek. When Moses held up his hands, the Israelites prevailed; when he lowered his hands, the Amalek army would prevail in battle. Moses grew weary and could hardly hold up his hands, so Aaron and Hur came to him and held his arms up for him until the battle was completed. These women held me up until the adoption was completed. In times of weariness, when I began to lose faith, when I had urges to give up, when negativity would arise, these women held up my hands and lifted my chin toward Almighty God. What a blessing to be surrounded by such godly women!” (Chapter 4) There is nothing quite like the adoption journey. It is a trek that is likened to a roller coaster ride, with all the twists and turns. There will be wonderful times that are full of highs, and you will praise God for all He has done, but there will be other difficult times. You might wait for answers with no end in sight. Someone may say something discouraging or completely rude about your adoption or your child. You might even be told you can no longer adopt your child, like we experienced. I promise, something will not go as your heart and mind intended, and honestly, this is in our best interest. When we face this, we’re drawn closer to God, and this is part of our sanctification process. We come to the point where we completely surrender to Him and let Him take control—the type of posture He desires of us daily. Unfortunately, at some point, even when you are looking to God, you won’t have the emotional or spiritual strength to carry on. I compel you to seek out your Aarons and Hurs. They are all around you, or maybe even far away, and they are “Armored Up” and ready to go to battle for you. How exciting to know God will place them in your life to hold your arms up to Him when you can no longer. Your Aarons and Hurs will help sustain you. It is vital to have the support of godly people around you lifting your arms and face towards God and praying with you, and for you. Don’t be scared to ask; there is a good chance they are already praying for you. If you can’t find any, I would love to be an Aaron or Hur for you. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to show you who can be your Aaron and Hur, and seek daily to be one to others.
