POWER IN THE SPIRIT Jesus boldly announced the very object of His mission - “the Spirit of the Lord is on me, BECAUSE...” I love that the Bible gives us a clear PURPOSE for being filled with the Spirit. Jesus was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit TO REACH OTHERS, and so are we! Romans 8:11 says we are filled with the same Spirit as Jesus; the Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. In Luke 4:18 Jesus is speaking into the character and nature of His mission. He is speaking to the HOW we reach and approach others - in humility and with a SERVANT HEART. When we humble ourselves, coming under to lift others up, we are catching the same spirit that God intended us to have. When we catch this servant-hearted spirit, we suddenly SEE the people in our immediate world differently. Our friends, family members, neighbours and work colleagues become those that we are anointed to reach and serve. Imagine seeing a prisoner freed or a blind person receive their sight - Wouldn’t there be such a huge sense of POWER and JOY in that moment! I believe that whoever we individually reach, we are called to be bringers of POWER and JOY in their lives. Jesus was anointed (set apart or empowered) to bring radical transformations in peoples lives - you and I are anointed for this!
