## 3\. JESUS GAVE EVERYTHING FOR ME ### THOUGHT God has not abandoned us. He was so moved by our separation from Him that He came near to us. He became a human being in Jesus Christ in order to show us His heavenly love in everything He said and did. Finally, he even gave His life for us. He took our place on the cross, bearing all the consequences of sin Himself. Jesus died – but He rose to life again, overcoming death and everything that separated us from God. Through Jesus we can enter into a personal relationship to God. Through faith in Jesus we can discover a life of love, strength and purpose. ### QUOTE “There is only one place in the world without darkness: the person of Jesus. God has shown himself most clearly to us in Christ.” Albert Einstein ### EXAMPLE Many years ago, a sea captain crossed the ocean with his large sailing ship. After several weeks he was informed that a passenger had helped himself to some of the strictly rationed food supplies without permission. The captain knew that this would sooner or later lead to their death. He summoned the whole crew and made it clear that whoever stole food would be given a whipping. Soon after, a sailor informed the captain that the thief had been caught. “There is a problem though,” the sailor added, “it is your old, frail mother, that you love so dearly.” The captain was at a loss. To carry out the punishment would mean the death of his mother. To turn a blind eye to the offense would lead to mutiny. After a sleepless night, he ordered his mother to be tied to the mast. Then he ordered the whipping to begin. In that moment something unbelievable happened: At the very moment in which the sailor began, the captain threw himself behind his mother and let himself be whipped in her stead. In this way, justice was served and at the same time he had saved his mother’s life and proven his love for her. In a similar way, Jesus solved the problem with us. ### QUESTIONS Who is Jesus for you personally?
