How The Gospel Meets Our Greatest Needs

DAY 3 OF 5

How Jesus Saves You’ve now heard the bad news. Maybe you’re feeling like the helpless villagers of a superhero movie, longing for something or someone to hope in. You’re dead in your sins, and you can do nothing. How can we ever find hope again? In steps Jesus Christ. You’ve likely heard his name, and maybe you even know a little of the story. Maybe you know that he came down from heaven to save humanity from their sins, but do you understand the fullness of what that means? We’ve already established the reality of our spiritual death that came with sin. We were sentenced to eternity without God, without the author of life, goodness, and love. Worst of all, we deserved our sentence. We all, each of us, have fallen short. We’ve participated in sin and loved it. But still God, in His glorious love longed for us to be with Him. He did not need us, but He wanted us, desired us to join him and experience eternal communion with Him. He took our bad news and made it His. In this, He made a way for us to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ. He came down from heaven, living out the perfect human story by never sinning, never being affected by the condition that plagues and has plagued every other human in all of history. On the cross, He bore the agony and pain that comes with sin. At the moment of his death, for the first time in all of eternity, he experienced separation from the Father. He took on our punishment, our death, our separation, so that we could be forgiven, we could live, and we could live in unity with God. The scriptures for today look at this wonderful miracle. While you read them, dwell on the beautiful salvation that God made possible through his son. Think about how much love it took to do something like that and realize that He did that with you in mind.
