DAY 3 OF 48

Do you know the feeling of never having enough or not knowing the solution to your problem? From time to time everyone has situations in which they are hungry for more than just the next meal. Physical hunger is nothing more than a sign to us that we need food. But often, we also have deficiencies in other areas. If, for example, we are often criticized, neglected or ignored by our parents, our friends or our partner, we hunger for love. If we are unfairly blamed for something by our boss, parents or partner one too many times, then we hunger for justice. And our soul often cries out in hunger. Hunger for connection with others, for purpose in our lives, for love, for justice, hope and security, to be cared for and supported, for financial freedom and for many other things. However, Jesus offers us a way out of these situations in which we feel we are lacking something. When Jesus, as the ‘bread of life’, says in verse 35 that everybody who comes to him “will never be hungry”, then he is obviously not referring to a physical hunger for food. Jesus promised the people that they will never hunger in their souls if they come to him. It almost sounds too good to be true. And maybe that’s one reason why many people in those days, like nowadays, did not believe or trust in Jesus. Can you blame them? Yet I wonder if the people in those days really couldn’t see how this bread had made these first disciples come alive, and how the emptiness of their souls had been completely satisfied, causing even physical afflictions to be healed and spiritual chains to be broken. The disciples were so filled with joy and peace in their hearts that later on they even gave their lives for their faith. ## ACTION STEP: How is the hunger in your soul? Have you allowed Jesus to still your hunger today? Ask God for a piece of the bread of life for something you have been yearning for for quite some time and entrust this to him, for he does not want to lose any of those people entrusted to him (John 6:39). ##### Tim Aulhorn – ICF Grünheide
