Remain In Me

DAY 5 OF 5

Firewood If we never choose to plug into the vine or accept Jesus as our Savior, then the Bible tells us that we’re like branches that are dead, thrown into the fire, and burned. Think about building a campfire: You walk around the woods looking for dead dry branches, because they’ll burn up easily and keep the fire going. This is the same analogy Jesus uses when referring to people who never experience new life in Christ. They’re spiritually dead, having no connection to the true source of life. Just like dead, brittle, dry branches, they have no potential for growth or life in them. This is a hard truth, but it’s the truth of God’s Word. We must connect to Jesus by inviting His Spirit to come into our lives, save us from our sins, and bring us new life in Christ. The analogy of dead branches can also apply to areas of our lives that aren’t producing good fruit. Once we’re connected to Jesus and have life in Him, He prunes areas of our lives that are unproductive and weigh us down in our spiritual walk. For example, if there’s an area that continually causes you to stumble, God will cut that branch off to free you in that area. Jesus is always pruning branches in my life that are sinful or unfruitful. He has our freedom in mind. As we do life with Jesus, He’ll cast off areas in our lives that are better used for firewood.
