Day 4: Love Me, Love Me Not Like: having the same characteristics or qualities as; similar to. I love people! I truly do! My husband says when I see someone I know, I “force hug” them. He reminds me all the time that not everyone likes to hug. Well, that is just crazy to me. That gentle reminder came in handy when I recently found out that one of my “friends” didn’t like me. What? I will never forget the first time I walked in the room and she ignored me like the plague. I had no clue why, so I spent two days wondering what in the world I had done or said. The thoughts consumed me and made me feel anxious. I believe every woman, regardless of her age, has experienced something similar. I picked up the phone and called one of my prayer mentors. This was the beginning of growing in a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. As much as I love “hugging,” I also love “fixing.” I wanted to pick up the phone to “defend” myself and figure it out because the thought of someone not liking me hurt my heart. My mentor shifted the conversation from “her” to why the feeling of rejection consumed “me.” Have you ever felt rejection or been in awkward social situations where you don’t know how people feel about you? I began a journey of realizing that I put all of my safety and security in other people. She directed me to Psalm 139 “Search MY heart O God……..” The reality is, I never gave God a chance to search my heart because I was trying to figure the other person’s. I was so consumed with where their heart posture was, I was ignoring mine. When I prayed I realized that what people think about me is their opinion, as long as I am being obedient to the Lord then that should be my only concern. God is my defender, but in the past I never gave Him a chance to defend. I want to encourage you to open up the book of Psalms and read it aloud. You will start to see that you can have the discipline of silence because God is fighting for you. As you start this day, I want you to ask God to “search your heart.” Rejection hurts but it does not define you, your Heavenly Father does. Daily Prayer: Heavenly Daddy, I pray that as I go throughout the day You remind me of how much You love me. There are people out there who love me as well as people who don’t. Help me focus on the ones who love and support me, the ones You have put in my life to encourage and draw me close to You. Help me find my value in our relationship only.
