Put On the New Man
1Therefore, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2#3:2 Or Be intent onSet your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3For you died and your life has been hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is our life, is manifested, then you also will be manifested with Him in glory.
5Therefore, #3:5 Or put to death the members which are upon the earthconsider the members of your earthly body as dead to sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry. 6On account of these things, the wrath of God is coming #3:6 Two early mss omit final clauseupon the sons of disobedience, 7and in them you also once walked, when you were living #3:7 Or among thesein them. 8But now you also, lay them all aside: wrath, anger, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. 9#3:9 Or Stop lyingDo not lie to one another, since you put off the old man with its evil practices, 10and have put on the new man who is being #3:10 Lit renovatedrenewed to a full knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— 11a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, #3:11 Those who were not Greeks, either by birth or by culturebarbarian, Scythian, slave, and freeman, but Christ is all and in all.
12So, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and #3:12 Forbearance toward otherspatience; 13bearing with one another, and graciously forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone, just as the Lord graciously forgave you, so also should you. 14Above all these things put on love, which is #3:14 Lit the uniting bond of perfectionthe perfect bond of unity. 15And let the peace of Christ #3:15 Or act as arbiterrule in your hearts, to which #3:15 Lit alsoindeed you were called in one body, and #3:15 Or show yourselves thankfulbe thankful. 16Let the word of #3:16 One early ms the LordChrist dwell in you richly, #3:16 Or inwith all wisdom teaching and admonishing #3:16 Or one another, singing with psalmsone another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing #3:16 Or by; lit in His gracewith gratefulness in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Family and Work
18Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them. 20Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is pleasing #3:20 Lit into the Lord. 21Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart.
22Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters #3:22 Or on earthaccording to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but with #3:22 Lit simplicityintegrity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23Whatever you do, do your work #3:23 Lit from the soulheartily, as for the Lord #3:23 Lit and notrather than for men, 24knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward #3:24 Consisting ofof the inheritance. #3:24 Or You serve the Lord ChristServe the Lord Christ. 25For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and #3:25 Lit there is no partialitythat without partiality.
