The Point of No Return

DAY 2 OF 5

It’s Time To Move Ahead

Have you ever fervently prayed and earnestly longed for something so much that every cell and fiber of your being waited in anticipation to receive your answer? When your utmost desire is to see your prayer come to fruition, it can be strenuous when it abruptly happens without warning!

Once you reach that point, things begin moving so quickly that you may feel like your head is spinning. All your years of waiting and hours spent training for this moment are suddenly called upon, and your faith must rise to the occasion to accept your ordained position in the Kingdom of God. There’s no time to pray or think about whether or not you should accept your new assignment—you’ve been praying about it and waiting for it for years! This is your time. This is your hour. Your day has finally arrived!

This mixture of excitement and anxiety that comes with an answered prayer and a new assignment was probably what Joshua felt in Joshua chapter 1 when he realized his hour to lead Israel had finally arrived. For decades, Joshua served Moses and was equipped by God to accept Moses’ position. But in an instant, Moses was gone. When it came time for Joshua to take his new position, he was promoted to the highest position of leadership in God’s plan.

The minute Moses departed from his position was Joshua’s point of no return. He couldn’t turn back, slow down, or pass the buck to someone else. He had trained and prepared for this moment for years. And now that the moment was suddenly upon him, that was it. His day had finally arrived, and Joshua reached his point of no return.

When God opens a door of opportunity for you, you may be inclined to ask yourself: Am I ready for this? Can I handle this kind of responsibility? Am I spiritually mature enough to deal with the obligations that come with this kind of position?

While these are good questions to ask as you assess your role in God’s plan, consider this: If God has truly opened a door of opportunity for you, He has counted you faithful enough at that point in your life to handle a new assignment. Otherwise, the door wouldn’t be opened to you! But if you don’t think you’re ready to handle what God has asked you to do, don’t worry! You can rest assured that He will help you grow into your position as you stay on the path He has ordained for you. He provides the grace and power to prepare and ready you for His divine plan. God just wants to hear your heart say yes to Him and to the exciting phases of life He has planned for you! When you commit yourself to Him, God begins to equip you with the tools you need to accept the role you’ve been entrusted to fill.

Study Questions:

  1. Do you know what God has called you to do? If so, what is it?
  2. What are some things God has promised you are you pursue His will?
  3. What specific scriptures has God given you that help define this particular “point of no return” in your life?
