Brave Change: Navigating Uninvited Seasons a 6 -Day Plan by Krista Pettiford

DAY 5 OF 6

Trust God's Guidance

And she said to her, "All that you say to me I will do." Ruth 3:5

God nearly never shares everything all at once.

God gives us a vision, a dream, or a prophetic word. He plants eternity in our hearts. He then works out His plan in our lives as we obey His guidance, one instruction or direction at a time. God guides us by His word and Spirit, but He also uses people. Keeping an open mind, open heart, and open hands, and letting go of our ideas of how things should happen, makes room for God's plan to unfold.

When Naomi saw that Boaz had favored Ruth, she devised a God-inspired plan for Ruth to go to Boaz and offer herself in marriage as a way for him to redeem them. Her plan required Ruth to trust her guidance without knowing how the matter would turn out.

Ruth could have hesitated, asked questions, or complained when Naomi explained the instructions to approach Boaz. She could have flat out refused, but she entered her new season with open hands, an open heart, and an open mind. Boaz was a much older man, not the ideal mate for Ruth by most people's standards, but he had shown her favor and kindness. Ruth also knew Naomi had her best interest at heart. If she had preconceived ideas about how God's will would unfold, she did not allow them to affect her response to Naomi's plan. She said, "All that you say to me, I will do."

Had Ruth rejected Naomi's instructions, God may never have fulfilled His plans in their lives. Ruth went to the threshing floor and did as she was instructed to do. Boaz accepted her offer to try to redeem them, and God's purpose for that season began to unfold.

As you navigate your season of change, like Ruth, God may guide you to do something you would not do if it were left to you. He may ask you to choose something other people may look down upon.

The fulfillment of God's plan requires us to trust God's guidance and obey His instructions without knowing how His plan will unfold. We all miss the mark. I've questioned God's instructions more times than I care to admit, but I've learned to trust His guidance and obey His instructions even when I don't understand His plan or have all the details figured out.

Are you willing to obey God and say like Ruth, "All that you say I will do," when He guides you?
