Don't Drift Through Life

DAY 4 OF 5

Be Anchored By the Power of Selective Association

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” Proverbs 13:20 NIV

“We don't always rise to the level of our potentials; we often rise to the level and quality of our relationships.”

Selective association is a principle of destiny. You have to choose your circle unapologetically. It is not the number of friends you have that counts; it is the quality of your relationships that matters.

“We don't always rise to the level of our potentials; we often rise to the level and quality of our relationships.” Great men and women in history who have lived up to God's call and expectations for their life are very selective with their association. You hardly play your role well in life without having role models, but not everyone is qualified to be your teacher. Even with the people, you choose to learn from, be selective.

Kathryn Kulham mentored Benny Hinn. (Both are great healing Ministers of God). Moses mentored Joshua. Barnabas mentored Apostle Paul. Apostle Paul mentored Timothy. Elijah mentored Elisha, and the late Billy Graham mentored Rick Warren. A purpose-driven life is only possible by a purpose-driven association. Show me anyone who rise high in life without mentors and teachers, and I will show you an accident going somewhere to happen. It's only a matter of time.

Associations are always a preview of your destination. Every relationship you cultivate or nurture is either aiding your purpose or drifting you away from it. Don’t run with the herd. God has not called you to Flock; He wants you to stand out. But it takes courage to be different. I love the word of Max Lucado:

"He who will lead the orchestra; must not face the crowd."

Don't hold on to relationships that are toxic to your life and purpose. You need friends that will help you fulfil God’s intention for your life, friends that are secure in their area of gifting and identity, friends that will appreciate your uniqueness and help you embrace it.

Every David needs a Jonathan, and every Naomi needs a Ruth. People who are insecure in their gifts and calling; and are not willing to embrace who God has called them to be will always be in conflict with your purpose. Sometimes, your calling is not for your friends to make sense of; you are first accountable to God before anyone else. Choose your circle unapologetically. Remember, iron can only sharpen iron.
