It's Always A Table For Two - #Life Series

DAY 5 OF 5

Singles of the Bible

In the Bible, there are many people who were single. I want to share eight, although I am sure there were more, to encourage you through this season of your life:

First and foremost, the Apostle Paul: a man who wrote the majority of the New Testament, was a single man. He was a man who pursued God and spread the message to many during his time.

Second, Anna: an elderly widow and a prophetess. She was devoted to the Lord and able to share her heart for God in the temple.

Third, Martha: one of Jesus’ friends. She illustrates that single people can get distracted and busy about many things, instead of being at the feet of Jesus. That is where her sister, Mary was, learning.

Fourth, Jeremiah: a prophet who suffered from loneliness. He faced it and realized that the Lord had called him for a great and high purpose.

Fifth, Ruth: one of Jesus’ ancestors who encountered shattered dreams. She did not know that she would be a young widow, but she kept moving forward, saying, “Lord, I want You to use me.”

Sixth, Joseph: another of Jesus’ ancestors who practiced purity in the midst of temptation. The wife of the leader he worked for was coming onto him. I am sure she was gorgeous, yet he ran out of the house. We must learn to flee temptation and run.

Seventh, Nehemiah: a Jewish leader who faced immense adversity in his life. Yet he remained faithful to God through it all and led his people to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem.

Eighth, John the Baptist: Jesus’ cousin who was always the groomsman and never the groom. He abandoned the world and chose to take a road of sacrifice. His whole life pointed to Jesus.

Let God do something great in your life. Your single state is not an accident; God has not forgotten about you. He loves you. He is not mad at you. Pray, “Lord, I want to take this freedom. I am going to walk with You through these circumstances. Yes, it is going to hurt at times, but I choose to surrender and trust You. I want to have undistracted devotion to You, Jesus.”
