Faith, Works And God’s Abundant GraceSample

Faith, Works And God’s Abundant Grace

DAY 3 OF 7

Commit to Doing the Works of Faith

The Bible is quite clear on the correlation between our faith and our works. No, we don’t have to work for our salvation because Jesus died to save us. We don’t get saved by doing good works. We’re saved by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

You can’t work for your salvation and you can’t work to become a child of God. Instead, you do good works now because you are a child of God. Your works of faith are proof that God is your Heavenly Father.

A baby isn't born knowing how to walk and talk right. It takes years for the child to grow up and learn good mannerisms. Similarly, when you are born again in Christ your lifestyle might not be up to the mark. But there has to be a tendency to lean towards the teachings of Christ and works of righteousness.

Good works matter because they are proof of your faith. Without works that substantiate your faith, your faith is meaningless. You don’t have to strive in legalistic manner to do righteous deeds that impress God. Your righteousness should be a natural by-product of the work God is doing in you because of your faith in Him.

Faith can work in you to bring two important changes to your life.

1. Transformation of Character

Your faith will transform your character. The more time you spend with God, learning from Him and conversing with Him, the more you will be renewed from the inside out. When you allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life, you’re sure to start displaying some of His good character too.

2. Excellence in Competence

Your faith will make you competent. When Daniel trusted the Lord and followed His direction, he was exalted above all the leaders of the land. If you are willing, the Holy Spirit will lead you towards excellence in every area of your life.

When your thoughts, words and deeds stem from the knowledge of who you are in Christ, they are works that reflect your faith. It’s not about being legalistic about what you do, but about being sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in your life. Build your faith in a manner that affects your character and your competence.
