Sou sizyèm mwa gwosès Elizabèt, Bondye voye zanj Gabriyèl zòn Galile nan vil Nazarèt. Bondye te voye l kay yon jennfi ki te fyanse ak yon nonm yo rele Jozèf. Jozèf sa a, se te moun ras David. Yo te rele jennfi a Mari. Zanj lan antre lakay Mari, li di li: — Bonjou, Mari, ou menm ki resevwa anpil favè. Mèt la avèk ou. Lè Mari tande pawòl sa yo, tèt li te boulvèse, li t'ap mande nan kè l kisa bonjou sa a te vle di. Men, zanj lan di li: — Pa pè, Mari. Ou jwenn favè nan men Bondye. Ou pral vin ansent, ou va fè yon pitit gason. W'a rele l Jezi. Y'ap ba li anpil konsiderasyon, y'a rele li Pitit Bondye ki nan syèl la. Mèt la, Bondye nou an, va fè li wa tankou David, granpapa li. L'a gouvènen pèp Izrayèl la pou tout tan, gouvènman l lan p'ap janm fini. Mari di zanj lan konsa: — Ki jan sa pral fè rive? Ala mwen poko janm konn gason! Zanj lan reponn li: — Sentespri a pral vin sou ou. Pouvwa Bondye ki anwo nan syèl la pral kouvri ou tankou yon lonbray. Se pou sa tou, tipitit ki pral fèt la pral viv apa pou Bondye, y'a rele l Pitit Bondye. Ou konnen Elizabèt, fanmi ou lan? Atout li fin vye a, men l ansent yon pitit gason. Yo te di l pat kapab fè pitit, men li deja sou sis mwa gwosès. Tou sa rive paske pa gen anyen Bondye pa ka fè. Mari di li: — Men mwen, se sèvant Mèt la mwen ye. Mwen swate pou sa rive m jan ou di a. Epi zanj lan kite li. Yon ti bout tan apre sa, Mari leve bridsoukou, li met deyò. Li pran wout mòn zòn Jide. Li antre lakay Zakari, li di Elizabèt bonjou. Lè Elizabèt tande boujou Mari di li a, pitit la pran jwe kò li nan vant li, sitèlman li kontan. Lamenm, Elizabèt vin anba pouvwa Sentespri. Li pran pale byen fò, li di konsa: — Nan tout fanm ki sou latè, ou menm ou se yon fanm Bondye beni anpil. Pitit ki nan vant ou a tou Bondye beni li. Kisa m ye menm, pou manman Mèt mwen vin rann mwen vizit? Gade! Bonjou a poko menm rive nan zòrèy mwen, pitit la gentan pran brase kò li nan vant mwen, tèlman li kontan. Ou se yon fanm beni! Paske, ou te kwè tout pawòl Mèt la voye di ou yo gen pou rive vre. Lè sa a, Mari di: Kite m' chante pou Mèt ki gen tout pouvwa a. Lespri m pran plezi nan Bondye ki delivrans mwen. Paske li voye je l sou mwen, yon sèvant ki soumèt devan li. Wi, depi kounyeya, epi pou tout tan, tout moun pral di: Ou se yon fanm Bondye beni! Paske Bondye ki gen tout pouvwa a fè anpil bèl bagay pou mwen. Non li, se yon non pou tout moun respekte. L'ap toujou gen pitye pou tout moun ki gen krentif pou li. Li fè lèzòm santi fòs ponyèt li. Li fè moun ki gen lògèy ak gwo lide nan kè yo pèdi tèt yo. Li desann chèf ki te byen chita nan fòtèy yo. Li leve moun ki pa gen pretansyon yo. Li bay moun ki grangou yo anpil byen. Li voye rich yo ale san anyen. Li vin pote sekou bay pèp Izrayèl k'ap sèvi l la. Li pa bliye fè wè jan li toujou gen kè sansib, pou Abraram ansanm ak tout ras li a, dapre pwomès li te fè zansèt nou yo. Mari pase twa mwa konsa ak Elizabèt. Apre sa, li tounen lakay li.

Élisabeth est enceinte depuis six mois. Voici que Dieu envoie l’ange Gabriel dans une ville de Galilée appelée Nazareth. Il l’envoie chez une jeune fille, promise en mariage à un homme appelé Joseph. Joseph a pour ancêtre le roi David, et le nom de la jeune fille est Marie. L’ange entre chez elle et lui dit : « Réjouis-toi ! Le Seigneur Dieu t’a montré son amour d’une manière particulière. Il est avec toi. » En entendant cela, Marie est très émue, elle se demande : « Que veut dire cette façon de saluer ? » L’ange lui dit : « N’aie pas peur, Marie ! Oui, Dieu t’a montré son amour d’une manière particulière. Tu vas attendre un enfant, tu mettras au monde un fils, et tu l’appelleras Jésus. Personne ne sera aussi important que lui. On l’appellera Fils du Très-Haut. Le Seigneur Dieu lui donnera le royaume de David, son ancêtre. Il sera le roi du peuple d’Israël pour toujours, et son pouvoir ne finira jamais. » Marie dit à l’ange : « Comment cela va-t-il arriver ? En effet, je ne vis pas avec un homme. » L’ange lui répond : « L’Esprit Saint viendra sur toi et la puissance du Très-Haut te couvrira comme l’ombre. C’est pourquoi l’enfant qui va naître sera saint, et on l’appellera Fils de Dieu. Écoute ! Élisabeth, qui est de ta famille, elle aussi est enceinte et elle aura un fils. Pourtant elle est vieille. On disait qu’elle ne pouvait pas avoir d’enfant, et maintenant, elle est enceinte depuis six mois ! Non, rien n’est impossible pour Dieu ! » Marie répond : « Je suis la servante du Seigneur. Que Dieu fasse pour moi ce que tu as dit ! » Alors l’ange la quitte. Peu de temps après, Marie s’en va. Elle marche vite vers les montagnes, dans une ville de Judée. Elle entre dans la maison de Zakarie et salue Élisabeth. Quand Élisabeth entend la salutation de Marie, l’enfant remue dans son ventre. Alors Élisabeth est remplie de l’Esprit Saint. Elle dit d’une voix forte : « Dieu te bénit plus que toutes les autres femmes, et il bénit aussi l’enfant que tu portes en toi ! La mère de mon Seigneur vient chez moi ! Quel honneur pour moi ! Oui, quand mes oreilles ont entendu ta salutation, l’enfant a remué de joie dans mon ventre. Tu es heureuse ! En effet, tu as fait confiance au Seigneur, et ce qu’il t’a dit arrivera. » Marie dit alors : « Oui, vraiment, le Seigneur est grand ! Je le chante ! Mon cœur est dans la joie à cause de Dieu qui me sauve. Il a fait attention à moi, sa servante sans importance. Oui, à partir de maintenant, les gens de tous les temps diront mon bonheur. Le Dieu tout-puissant a fait pour moi des choses magnifiques. Son nom est saint. Il sera plein de bonté pour toujours envers ceux qui le respectent avec confiance. Il agit avec beaucoup de puissance, il chasse ceux qui ont le cœur orgueilleux. Il renverse les rois de leurs sièges, et il relève les petits. Il donne beaucoup de richesses à ceux qui ont faim, et les riches, il les renvoie les mains vides. Il vient au secours du peuple d’Israël, son serviteur. Il n’oublie pas de montrer sa bonté. Voilà ce qu’il a promis à nos ancêtres, à Abraham et à sa famille pour toujours. » Marie reste avec Élisabeth pendant trois mois environ, puis elle retourne chez elle.

L ap renye sou pèp Izrayèl la pou tout tan. Pouvwa li p ap janm fin i.” Lè sa a, Mari di anj lan konsa: “Ki jan sa ka fè rive? Mwen se yon moun ki pa ko nan lavi gason.” Zanj lan reponn li: “Sentespri a pral vini sou ou, epi pouvwa Bondye ki pi wo nan syèl la pral kouvri w. Se poutèt sa, pitit ou pral fè a ap sen. Y ap rele l Pitit Bondye. Epi fòk mwen di w sa tou, fanmi ou, Elizabèt, ansent kounye a la a. Malgre li fin granmoun, li pral fè yon pitit gason. Yo te di li pa t kapab fè pitit, epoutan gen simwa la a depi li ansent. Sa rive konsa, paske pa gen anyen ki enposib pou Bondye.” Mari di li: “Se sèvant Senyè a mwen ye. Se pou sa rive m jan ou di a.” Apre sa, Zanj lan ale. Nan menm epòk la, Mari leve, san pèdi tan, li ale nan yon ti vil nan mòn Jide. Mari antre lakay Zakari epi li salye Elizabèt. Menm kote Elizabèt fin tande salitasyon Mari a, pitit ki nan vant Elizabèt la pran sote nan vant li epi Sentespri a ranpli Elizabèt. Li pale byen fò epi li di Mari konsa: “Bondye beni ou pami tout fi, li beni pitit ou ap fè a tou. Ki sa m ye menm, pou manman Senyè m nan vin lakay mwen? Paske menm kote salitasyon ou nan rive nan zòrèy mwen, pitit la pran danse nan vant mwen, tèlman li kontan. Ou se yon moun ki beni, paske ou te kwè sa Senyè a te di w la gen pou rive vre.” Apre sa Mari di: “Nanm mwen beni non Bondye. Lespri m rejwi nan Bondye sovè mwen. Malgre mwen pa gen enpòtans, Senyè a manifeste favè li anvè mwen, pòv sèvant li a. Depi kounye a pou jouktan sa fin i, tout moun ap sonje kijan Bondye beni m anpil. Wi, Bondye ki gen tout pouvwa a fè anpil gwo bagay pou mwen. Non li sen anpil. Li toujou gen konpasyon pou moun ki gen krentif pou li. Li manifeste pouvwa li nan sa li fè ak men li. Moun ki ògeye yo epi ki panse se yon pakèt afè yo ye, li fè yo wont. Li ranvèse wa yo sou twòn yo epi li leve tèt moun ki bese byen ba devan li. Li bay moun ki grangou yo manje pou plen vant yo, men li voye moun rich yo ale san anyen. Bondye ede Izrayèl pèp li chwazi pou sèvi l la. Li pa t janm bliye mizerikòd li. Jan li te di zansèt nou yo, Abraram ansanm ak desandan l yo, li t ap fè l la, pou tout tan gen tan.” Mari pase anviwon twa mwa lakay Elizabèt, apre sa li tounen lakay li.

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.” Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.

Marie fut profondément troublée par ces paroles ; elle se demandait ce que signifiait cette salutation. L’ange lui dit alors : N’aie pas peur, Marie, car Dieu t’a accordé sa faveur. Voici : bientôt tu seras enceinte et tu mettras au monde un fils ; tu le nommeras Jésus. Il sera grand. Il sera appelé « Fils du Très-Haut », et le Seigneur Dieu lui donnera le trône de David, son ancêtre. Il régnera éternellement sur le peuple issu de Jacob, et son règne n’aura pas de fin. Marie dit à l’ange : Comment cela se fera-t-il, puisque je suis vierge ? L’ange lui répondit : L’Esprit Saint descendra sur toi, et la puissance du Dieu très-haut te couvrira de son ombre. C’est pourquoi le saint enfant qui naîtra de toi sera appelé Fils de Dieu. Vois : ta parente Elisabeth attend elle aussi un fils, malgré son grand âge ; on disait qu’elle ne pouvait pas avoir d’enfant, et elle en est à son sixième mois. Car rien n’est impossible à Dieu. Alors Marie répondit : Je suis la servante du Seigneur. Que tout ce que tu m’as dit s’accomplisse pour moi. Et l’ange la quitta. Peu après, Marie partit pour se rendre en hâte dans une ville de montagne du territoire de Judée. Elle entra chez Zacharie et salua Elisabeth. Au moment où celle-ci entendit la salutation de Marie, elle sentit son enfant remuer en elle. Elle fut remplie du Saint-Esprit et s’écria d’une voix forte : Tu es bénie plus que toutes les femmes et l’enfant que tu portes est béni. Comment ai-je mérité l’honneur que la mère de mon Seigneur vienne me voir ? Car, vois-tu, au moment même où je t’ai entendu me saluer, mon enfant a bondi de joie au-dedans de moi. Tu es heureuse, toi qui as cru à l’accomplissement de ce que le Seigneur t’a annoncé. Alors Marie dit : Mon âme chante ╵la grandeur du Seigneur et mon esprit se réjouit ╵à cause de Dieu, mon Sauveur. Car il a bien voulu ╵abaisser son regard ╵sur son humble servante. C’est pourquoi, désormais, ╵à travers tous les temps, ╵on m’appellera bienheureuse. Car le Dieu tout-puissant ╵a fait pour moi de grandes choses ; lui, il est saint . Et sa bonté ╵ s’étendra d’âge en âge sur ceux qui le craignent . Il est intervenu ╵de toute sa puissance et il a dispersé ╵les hommes dont le cœur ╵était rempli d’orgueil. Il a précipité ╵ les puissants de leurs trônes, et il a élevé les humbles . Il a comblé de biens ╵ ceux qui sont affamés, et il a renvoyé ╵ les riches les mains vides . Oui, il a pris en main ╵ la cause d’ Israël , il a témoigné sa bonté ╵ au peuple qui le sert , comme il l’avait promis à nos ancêtres, à Abraham et à ses descendants pour tous les temps. Marie resta environ trois mois avec Elisabeth, puis elle retourna chez elle.
