Quit Daydreaming: How to Wake Up & Break Free (Part 3)

DAY 1 OF 7

The Truth Behind Loneliness

There was a time when I convinced myself I was better off alone. You know, kind of like those Looney Tunes cartoons when the gang finds themselves in the middle of a crossroads and go separate ways.

Shortly after, an animated protagonist would begin their long trudge down a dusty track road in the middle of nowhere while muttering to themselves: “Who needs them anyway? I’m better off alone.”

Except –of course, they aren’t, and if they are being completely honest with themselves, they are disillusioned and have no proper sense of direction.

Still, pride, stubbornness, and hurt feelings won’t allow them to admit two, at the very least, is better than one, so they continue down their spiral to nowhere…alone.

This analogy pretty much summed up the teenage years of my life. After countless rejections, I grew weary of trying to form friendships and compensated for my lack of social interactions with the elaborate daydreams in my head.

And guess what? It worked…for a while. Because no matter how much I tried to escape through my internal storybook, no intricate plot filled with fame, fortune, or enviable talent could replace reality. And the stark difference between my daydreams and real life just amplified my feelings of solitude.

Clearly, feelings of loneliness can render massive destruction to our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

So what remedy does God propose to address a widespread human emotion that is both universal yet unique to each individual? His Word.

Loneliness is a state of mind bolstered by perception, but how we perceive things does not necessarily align with our realities.

That is why we must counteract our negative thoughts with the truth. Which, in this case, is God’s Word, scriptures that are perfect and powerful enough to revive our souls, gladden our hearts, and enlighten our eyes.

The Father is always there, and the best part is He will never jump ship or abandon us. In fact, the Lord God goes before us when we are unsure where we are going. He stands behind us to guard and defend us from unseen attacks, and most importantly, when we confess our sins and surrender to His will, He dwells inside us.
