Sermon Notes

1 John 4:18 - "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear"

Romans 12:1 - "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship."

Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will."

Following Jesus changes a person's life

1. First of all, We offer ourselves to God because of His mercy (v. 1)

He took our place, taking upon himself the consequences and punishment of our sin so that now there is no condemnation for us. That is an act of grace and mercy.

2. Second, Paul also reminds us that, We offer ourselves to God as a living sacrifice (v. 1)

“What does it mean to be a living sacrifice?” It is to sign your name at the bottom of this blank sheet, and let God fill it in as He wants. Are you willing to give God a blank contract and let him fill it in?

3. Next Paul tells us how. We offer ourselves to God through a surrendered mind (v. 2)

Rom. 12:2 - “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”

When we give ourselves to God it is reflected in how we live.

Following Christ is a molding process. The only way transformation can occur is to give ourselves totally to God so the mind and power of Jesus Christ can dwell in us.

4. Finally, Paul also said that, We are offer ourselves to God all the time (3-21)

3 examples of the transformation of the believer:
A Life of Giftedness (v. 3-8)
A Life of Goodness (v. 9-13)
A Life of Graciousness (v. 14-21)

Living this Life of Worship moves away from just this hour to all the hours of our lives, and it moves away from one activity of coming to worship to all of our activities: each relationship, each task, each opportunity, each problem, each success, each failure.

Life as a Living Sacrifice is our personal linking of faith and works.

Surrendering your life to God is not just a church activity; it is a life activity. Following Christ is not a sometime life; it is an all-the-time life.
