The BIG question:
Did Jesus fulfill the promise to replace Moses?
Three reasons why we should listen to the Prophet?
1. He is our Go-Between.
a. In His grace and Mercy, God promised a Go-Between, and intermediary, an intercessor.
b. Often, we fail to keep the law and dress up our sins with excuses. Focusing on our “good points” is a denial of our faith.
2. He is our Brother.
a. This Prophet spoken of by God came from the people of Israel.
b. As our Brother he kept the Law in our place, and as our God he kept it perfectly
3. He is the Truth.
“I will put my words in his mouth.” – Deuteronomy 18:18b
a. Anyone who does not listen will be held to account.
b. The Prophet only speaks the truth, for he is Truth.
“I am the way and the truth and the life.” – John 14:6
c. He not only speaks God’s message; He is God’s message.
4. Application
Jesus is the prophet mentioned.
1. Don’t settle for any imitations.
2. The world will never satisfy your prophecy hunger.
3. Believe that he fulfills all prophecy as our Savior and substitute.
4. Listen to Him and believe His promises!
Challenge: (Just a few quick ideas)
1. Don’t depend on you.
- We live in a world where trust must be earned and seems to be in short supply. But Solomon, the famous king who wrote Proverbs, knew that trust is exactly where we must start:
2. Cry out to God
- Surrendering to God begins with our lips and our thoughts. We need more than a commitment to depend on Him; we need to cry out to Him to show that dependence.
3. Put God first in your life.
- It’s easiest to put ourselves first. When something good happens, we want to congratulate ourselves with a reward. When something bad happens, we want to console ourselves or find someone to blame.
