REBUILDING THE ALTAR BEGINS WITH PROTECTING HIS PRESENCE
“The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed his household and everything he had.” - 1 Chronicles 13:14
“He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, to extol, thank, and praise the Lord, the God of Israel: Asaph was the chief, and next to him in rank were Zechariah, then Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They were to play the lyres and harps, Asaph was to sound the cymbals,6and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow the trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God. - 1 Chronicles 16:4-6

AN ALTAR IS A PLACE OF REMEMBRANCE, TEACHING AND COMMITMENT
“When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan,” "Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan from right where the priests stood and to carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.” So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites,” - Joshua 4:1-5
An Altar Is A Place To Remember What God Has Done
Joshua 4:7 - "These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever."
The Altar Is A Place Of Teaching The Next Generation
Joshua 4:6-7 - "...in the future, when your children ask you, 'What do these stones mean?' tell them..."
The Altar Is A Place Of Renewing Personal Commitment
Joshua 4:9 - "Joshua set up the twelve stones that had been in the middle of the Jordan at the spot where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant had stood. And they are there to this day."
