Glencairn Church

Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend or on you own. Its aim is to create time for you to spend with God and his word. Do as much or as little as you like. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact one of our pastoral staff.

1. Pray for the needs of your Life Group, for our church and our leaders, for personal and corporate renewal, and to allow God’s word to transform us. Share a recent entry from your Life Journal with the group.

2. This Sunday, the message focus was on the dangers of money as found in Luke 18:18-30. What thoughts or questions did the message raise for you? Which ones encouraged you or posed a challenge to you?

3. Read Luke 18:18-30 (see also Matt. 19:16-30; Mark 10:17-31). Jesus points out to the young man that those things that he valued – his wealth, possessions, position – were valueless in eternity. How does this impact your view of your wealth (money and possessions)? Read Mark 10:24-26. What do you think the disciples were astonished about?

4. How does wealth, possessions, or secure jobs become a distraction as we live our lives as Christians? How do they become our “living water”? How can they delude us into relaxing into a feeling of “safety and security”?

5. It is difficult to know the power and influence that money, possessions and job security have in our own lives. How would you feel and how would you respond if Jesus asked you to give it all away and follow Him?

6. In your walk as a Christian, what sacrifices are you willing to make in response to Jesus? How can you respond to needs in your church, your neighbourhood, and the world?

7.Take a moment of silence to consider how God is speaking to you through these verses. What is He saying to you about your life here on earth and your life in Heaven? What concrete steps of response do you want to take? How can your group support you in these steps?
