1 Samuel | The Weight of Glory, Part 1
Is there something in your life that’s keeping you from being everything God designed you to be? Something holding you back from being part of everything He built you for? And how do you know? How do you identify those things that are tripping you up and holding you back? Join us this weekend as we explore the answer to that so-important question in the book of 1 Samuel.

Mission Hills is a church family—a family who wants to extend to you the same love, hope, and joy that we have received. We know that we cannot be all things to all people. But we do want to be one thing to all people. We want to be the place where anyone, of any age, of any level of spiritual maturity, of any economic class, of any ethnicity, of any church background—or no church background—can meet God in a way that transforms their life…forever!

If you are a first time guest, we would love to meet you! Stop by the Welcome Center for a free gift.
And Samuel's word came to all Israel. (1 Samuel 4:1a)
Transitions expose our weaknesses.
Now the Israelites went out to fight against the Philistines. The Israelites camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines at Aphek. The Philistines deployed their forces to meet Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand of them on the battlefield. (1 Samuel 4:1b-2)
“No one will be able to stand up against you;” (Deuteronomy 7:24)
When the soldiers returned to camp, the elders of Israel asked, "Why did the LORD bring defeat on us today before the Philistines? (1 Samuel 4:3a)
The kinds of questions we ask determine the kinds of answers we get.
The key to your next breakthrough might be a better question.
Let us bring the ark of the Lord's covenant from Shiloh, so that he may go with us and save us from the hand of our enemies. (1 Samuel 4:3b)
The more we try to put God in a box, the more we're tempted to think we can control Him.
We need people in our lives who will tell us the truth, even when it's hard to hear.
Bad theology never produces long-term success.
God disciplines us because He loves us.
1. What transition am I experiencing right now and what need for growth is it revealing?
2. What boxes am I trying to keep God in...or out of?
3. Am I seeking counsel from people I can trust to speak the truth even when it's hard to hear?
4. Is there anywhere in my life that I'm trusting in bad theology?
