Romans 3:21-24
Righteousness
Romans 3:21-24 NASB1995
Vs 21 - 21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets.
...now apart from the Law…
This absolutely essential condition (righteousness) has now become possible for mankind apart from the demand for human beings to keep or obey the Law
…the righteousness of God…
Righteousness describes our way of being with God that God established as good, right and beautiful.
We did not achieve our own righteousness, we received God’s righteousness.
Vs 22-23
even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christfor all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…
…the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ…
*Through (Gr: dia): the channel of an act.
*Faith (Gr: pistis); belief with the predominate idea of trust or confidence.
Gospel Reality!
God has made it possible that we receive rather than achieve righteousness as a gift from Him through faith!
…for all those who believe…
Believe (Gr. Pisteuo): to entrust something to someone
Believe communicates intention to actively depend on their capability of the one who is believed in.
Vs 24
…there is no distinction for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus…
…for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
We have, each and every one, sinned and fallen infinitely short of the good and beautiful life and character of God.
…being justified…
Justified –(Gr. Dikaioo) to be rendered innocent.
… as a gift by His grace…
Justified as a gift means having the guilt of our sin permanently removed by God Himself,
…through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.
Redemption describes a person being made free again as a result of their debt having been paid in full.
The Gospel must never be reduced only to only the part of the story that includes our being made righteous and our being justified by God, nor should the Gospel ever leave these parts of the story out.
You cannot do life with God until you are made righteous and justified by God through faith in Jesus Christ.
