Devoted: Finding Greatness in God’s Eyes
Welcome to Grace Chapel! The way God defines greatness is different than how the world defines greatness. God desires faith and humility to be present in His children. The posture of our hearts is more important to God than the product of our hands. In this message, we talk about humility and how God humbles the proud by gives grace to the humble.

Chris Hutchison in “Rediscovering Humility” — “A venture into humility is much more like a good old-fashioned wrestling match than a peaceful walk into the woods. A sincere study of humility means exposing one’s soul to God and letting Him have His way.”
What is true greatness?
- The world’s definition: having what you want and getting others to envy what you’ve got.
- God’s definition: having more of God by having less of yourself.

Daniel 4:1-18: The Dream and the Demand to Surrender
True greatness comes as a result of true brokenness. (vv. 1-20)
Humbling ourselves comes by reflecting on our own smallness and reflecting on God’s greatness.
True greatness listens to God. (vv. 20-27)
Humility draws the attention of our sovereign God.

Acknowledging God is different than obeying God.
True greatness comes from God. (vv. 28-33)

True greatness praises God. (vv. 34-37)
Humility submits to God’s Lordship and enrolls in God’s Service.
This week I will…
- Evaluate prayerfully where I am harboring too much pride in my life and ask God to humble me in these areas.
- I will read and memorize Matthew 23:12.
- Write a list of things I am grateful to God for and remember John 3:27: “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from Heaven.”
- Choose to serve others this week with three acts of intentional kindness. (Philippians 1:1; 2 Corinthians 4:5; Matthew 23:11)
