Heartland Community Church
Sunday Worship February 3, 2019
The smallest things often make the biggest difference: a shifting foundation can bring down a house, a small spark can ignite a huge fire, a simple act of kindness can change a life, or a single word can change someone’s eternity. We place a lot of emphasis on the big things, but they all start with little steps. Join us as we look at the small, seemingly insignificant, things Jesus did that make all the difference in our lives today.

Church Budget Meeting
Heartland will have another church meeting next Sunday, February 10th in the sanctuary immediately following church service. The trustees will present a new proposed budget for 2019. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this meeting. Because of legal issues and per church bylaws, while everyone is welcome to attend, only those who are 18 years or older and have joined Heartland as members are allowed to vote on the budget.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Pastor Matt or any of the trustees: Barb Achatz, Keith Beckwith, Renee Buntain, Ryan Hammeke, Tom Montoya, Tim Nollette and Brandon Schroeter.

Youth Group Football Party, Winter Jam & Missions
The Youth Group will be hosting a fun time of epic proportions surrounding a specific football game today, February 3rd, at 5:30 p.m. They will be joined by the Youth Group from Macksville Christian Church. Encourage any youth you know in grades six through twelve to come join in the football, food and fun.

For all youth in 6th-12th grades, Winter Jam is this Friday, February 8th in Wichita. Cost is $50 and Dayton must have the money TODAY to order the Jam Nation passes. They will leave from the church parking lot at 4 p.m. or sooner if everyone is here.

Plans are underway for a Youth Group Mission Trip to Eureka Springs, AR from July 7th-13th. The youth will be working with missions organization TEAMeffort.

From TEAMeffort’s website, “In the small towns and rural areas in the Ozark Mountains are people who quietly live in deplorable conditions with little hope of change. Youth groups will find this summer mission camp heartbreaking at first as they see the destitute conditions in which people live, but that work will soon become heartwarming as they see the difference they can make in someone's life. Reaching out to help these struggling families fix and maintain what little they have brings them a message of Christian caring and service that will open their eyes to Christ's love. Group projects during this summer mission camp will be a mixture of roofing, painting, wheelchair ramp construction, and general clean-up and repair.”

Fundraising for the trip will soon begin. This is a wonderful way for the kids to see that even they can make a huge difference in some-one’s life for the Kingdom of God. Please help support them as you feel led.

Expand
Prayer Concerns & Praises - Please email any prayer requests, praises or other needs to info@heartlandgb.com.

Oleta Beckwith has been dealing with some health issues for the last few months and will see a gastroenterologist in Salina tomorrow, February 4th. Please pray for her wellness, for wisdom for the doctors, and that they will be able to make a correct diagnosis so she can be treated and get well.

Adrianna Graves and momma Amber Graves are home! Praise God for this precious life as she grows. Continue to pray for her health and that she will have no complications from her premature birth.

Both Jack Bailey and Fred Schultz have been having a lot of back/hip/sciatica pain. Please pray for pain relief and for the doctors to find the cause. Pray also for wisdom and for an effective treatment.

Please pray for Grace Bradburn, Mark & Krista Ball’s daughter, as she continues to recover from her emergency c-section, that her health would be restored. Also pray for precious Eli Roy.

Pray for the Revive & Redeem event next week. Pray that God will revive our churches and our city and turn our lives back toward Him.

Please pray for Bud & Margaret Sell, Jennifer Leiker’s grandparents who live in southern Texas. They have both been in the hospital for various health issues and her grandmother left the rehab facility against doctor’s recommendations because of insurance. There are also other extended family issues regarding Power of Attorney and other legal matters. Please pray for Bud & Margaret and for the family as they work to get the best care and solutions for them and for wisdom and peace over the entire situation.

Lindy Nelson was in the hospital last week for severe abdominal pain and discomfort. After a lot of testing it was determined to be food poisoning. The testing did turn up some other health concerns that need to be addressed. Please pray for wisdom and comfort.

Continue to pray for Susan Phillips, Mark Ball’s sister. She was denied acceptance for the second time to begin a clinical trial. She will be starting a new regimen of chemo on February 8th, but her doctor is still working to get her into other clinical trials. Please pray that the new chemo regimen would be effective, that the doctor would find a clinical trial that will accept her, and for wisdom, comfort and peace throughout this ordeal.

Please pray for Norma King, Lori Jacobs’ mother. Norma’s conges-tive heart failure has increased, her kidneys are not adequately working, her legs are very swollen and she is on oxygen. Please pray for Norma’s health and for peace and strength for her, Lori and the rest of the family.

Pray for our nation and the immoral decisions that are being made by those in power, specifically in regards to abortion. Pray for an end to this evil practice. Especially pray for the women who have to face this decision and feel they have no other choice. Pray that more and more hearts and homes will be open to adoption.

Praise! Lori Jacobs saw her neurologist recently and her MS is in remission and the lesions in her spine have almost all disappeared!

Pray for all who are hurting and have unspoken needs.

Please continue to pray for John & Carole Harris and Jenni Wittig. Pray that the treatments they are each receiving will be effective.

Sermon Notes & Scripture
Small Things, Big Difference
Authority Issues
Matt Schaffner
The Bible leaves no room for doubt- there are evil spirits/demons in the world.
The Bible clearly teaches that there is a spiritual war happening.
The Bible clearly delineates Jesus' power and authority over everything- evil spirits included.
Jesus' power and authority amazed people, but they didn't understand the source of His power and authority.
Jesus' power and authority extends to every part of life- physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental.
Jesus' power at work in our world always leads to a response: either gratitude and service or apathy and entitlement.
Jesus' power and authority isn't for a privileged few, but for all people.
Acknowledging Jesus' power and authority isn't the same as choosing to submit and surrender to it!
“Demons could confess who he was, just as Satan could at his temptations in the wilderness. They had good theology. They knew he was Messiah. But knowing the title was not enough. They did not respect the title, obey the titleholder, and believe in what God was doing through him.”
-Trent Butler

Monday is coming!
What happens Sunday is only as meaningful as what you do with it the rest of the week. Evil is real & there are spiritual forces aiming for your absolute, total, & eternal destruction. However, we know that "the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us!" Join us as we dig deeply into the gospels & learn from Jesus & His authority over everything.
