Sunday Worship January 20, 2019

The smallest things often make the biggest difference: a shifting foundation can bring down a house, a small spark can ignite a huge fire, a simple act of kindness can change a life, or a single word can change someone’s eternity. We place a lot of emphasis on the big things, but they all start with little steps. Join us as we look at the small, seemingly insignificant, things Jesus did that make all the difference in our lives today.

The youth will be working with missions organization TEAMeffort.

From TEAMeffort’s website, “In the small towns and rural areas in the Ozark Mountains are people who quietly live in deplorable conditions with little hope of change. Youth groups will find this summer mission camp heartbreaking at first as they see the destitute conditions in which people live, but that work will soon become heartwarming as they see the difference they can make in someone's life. Reaching out to help these struggling families fix and maintain what little they have brings them a message of Christian caring and service that will open their eyes to Christ's love. Group projects during this summer mission camp will be a mixture of roofing, painting, wheelchair ramp construction, and general clean-up and repair.”

Fundraising for the trip will soon begin. This is a wonderful way for the kids to see that even they can make a huge difference in someone’s life for the Kingdom of God. Please help support them as you feel led.

Sermon Notes & Scripture
Small Things, Big Difference
Grounded to Triumph in the Trial
Matt Schaffner

Luke 4:1-13

Jesus wasn't passively drug into the wilderness by the enemy nor did He randomly happen to go there. Rather, He was led "by the Spirit" to the place of temptation as the Son of God on a first offensive sortie against the enemy of mankind.
The worst temptations come when we are at our most vulnerable.
Doubt is the first tool of the tempter.
Jesus decisively applies Scriptural truth to combat temptation.
The enemy is subtle, even quoting the Word of God, but Jesus teaches us to read Scripture in light of Scripture to get the total expression of God's will.
How do we deal with temptation in light of Jesus' temptation?
1) Read & memorize Scripture.
2) Pray Scripture.
3) Live Scripture out.
Read it through, write it down, pray it in, and live it out!
-E.F. Hallock
Monday is coming!
What happens Sunday is only as meaningful as what you do with it the rest of the week. A firm foundation for your life starts in Scripture and obedience to God, but temptation will come to try to wreck your life just like it did for Jesus. The good news is you don't have to fall to temptation. Join us this week as we read about overcoming temptation!
