A. Love is the Core Value That Casts a Shadow Over All of Our Core Values

At Emmanuel Church we desire to be a people who love others as Jesus loves us. Love transforms people and families

Love is the foundation of our Mission and the Core Value from which all other Core Values and ministries grow. Love originates with God and is expressed through His people. It is the covering for every motivation and action that we take, make, or create. If we are without God’s love we have little ability to make a difference in the lives of people or families. Others will identify us as Christ followers because of love. God first loved us and because of His Love we can love others (1 John 4:7-12; 1 Corinthians 13; Matthew 22:36-40)

Take Away: God loves us in the first place and because of this love He’s sent His Son to express His profound love to us. Jesus’ love for us is expressed by His work on the Cross. Our love for others flows out of God’s love for us.

B. Grace is an Essential Characteristic of Authentic Christians

At Emmanuel Church we desire to be a people who extend the grace of God to others. Grace transforms people and families.

Grace is getting something we don't deserve and is perfectly illustrated in God’s gift of Jesus Christ. Jesus' death and resurrection are supreme examples of grace. In His death Jesus paid a price for our sins that we simply could not pay. Only the blood of Jesus, given as an offering of grace, can erase our sins. We don't deserve this precious gift, but He freely offers it to all people. In His resurrection Jesus has overcome death and through grace has paved the way for us to live eternally with Him. We truly are saved through faith because of God’s grace. (John 1:16-17; Ephesians 2:1-10; Romans 3:23-25; Romans 5:17)

Redemption=apolutrossis-the act of paying ransom in full

Atonement=hilasterion-traced back to the animal offerings made in the Tabernacle and Temple

Take Away: We’re found innocent and our sins have been paid for by the act of grace that is evidenced in Jesus offering Himself on the Cross. It’s a grace that is extended to all people for all time.

Learn budgeting, stewardship practices, and ways to be a more generous Christ follower -Couples Retreat Friday, Jan. 25 and Saturday, Jan. 26: Sign up today for this great time together with Guest Teacher Todd Braschler. Cost is $30 and includes three meals and childcare. 6pm-9:30pm Friday and 8am-4:30pm Saturday. Register at the sign up board or by contacting the Church Office at 785-263-3342.
