Galatians 4:4-7
For many years people have been looking for God. Asking, ”Where is God?”“Who is God?” Or, “What is God like?” But it is through Christmas these questions are answered. Through Christmas we discover God came close—and that He’s near. Through the story of Christmas we discover that God isn’t unknowable, or unattainable, or undiscoverable. To the contrary—HE IS WITH US, and we never have to be alone!
4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. 6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” (Galatians 4:4-7 NIV)
Christmas reminds us that . . .
1. GOD CAME TO US.
4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, (Galatians 4:4 NIV)
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:4 NIV)
14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14 NIV)
2. THERE WAS A PURPOSE TO HIS COMING!
“…when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.” (Galatians 4:4-5 NIV)
“By Jesus all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created by Him and for Him. He is before all things and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:15-17 NIV)
3. GOD REALLY GETS US.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. (Hebrews 4:15 NIV)
7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” (Galatians 4:7 NIV)
