Heartland Community Church
Sunday Worship November 18, 2018
We take SO much for granted- things we've seen happen so often we no longer think of them as the little miracles they really are. But, if we stopped to give thanks where it was due, what would our hearts & lives look like? Join us as we take some time out to give thanks where thanks is due and cultivate an attitude of gratitude!

Online Giving

Everything we do at Heartland starts with you. Working together, we accomplish more than any of us could alone. We encourage people to give generously as God has given to them, knowing we can't outgive God! A Few Notes from Children’s Ministry
Do you have a heart for kids and sharing His love for them? We are in need of a few more helpers with Children’s Church. You don’t have to teach or prepare any lessons, just come and help the leader with the kids. Let Kat Schaffner know if you are willing to serve.
We have a couple of events coming up in December and January. On December 16th we will be baking Christmas Cookies with the kids. Sign-up will soon be available online. If you are able to help by donating Sugar Cookie dough or by coming to assist, please contact Kat Schaffner.
On January 19th, come join in on the fun for a Nerf Wars Family Fun night. We can use any boxes you might have from Christmas gifts or appliance boxes that can be used to build forts. Again, please contact Kat Schaffner.

Many Hands Make Work Light
We have a big facility to decorate for Christmas! We’re going to get started “hanging the greens” on Monday, November 26th at 1 p.m. Come join in on the fun, fellowship, share some laughs, and help Heartland prepare to celebrate His joyous birth.

Wow!
We had well over 150 people in attendance Wednesday night for Standing Strong for Kids with Bubba Dowling. Not only did they get to hear Bubba’s amazing testimony and hear about Christ dying for their sins, eight souls decided to accept His gift and follow Him! Praise God for being so present in our lives!

Ladies – Mark Your Calendars Now!
We are excited to let you know that we will be hosting a Women’s Conference on Saturday, April 6th. The conference will be a live simulcast of Going Beyond with Priscilla Shirer. Planning has already begun, but if you would like to help in any way we would love to have you join us. Please contact Lori Jacobs to get in on the planning and fun.
We are hoping to offer this conference at no cost to the attendees. If you are able to help with the finances or know of someone else who would be willing to help with this, please let us know. Additionally, we will have giveaways during the day. If you have a business or know someone who would donate items for participant bags (pens, notepads, tissues, gum, mints, chocolate, etc.) or larger items for drawings, please contact Stacey Brenner or Stephanie Oglesbee.

College Care Boxes
Finals week is coming up fast for our college kids. We will be sending out care boxes to them to let them know that their church family is thinking about them and praying for them. If you have anything you would like to add to the boxes (chapstick, gum, candy, soups, ramen noodles, etc.) we will be sending out 12 boxes. We are putting them together following church service on December 2nd. Anyone is welcome to come help.

Pray for those who are persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ. Pray for their strength and boldness in sharing their faith and in standing up to their oppressors, and that we would be as bold in sharing our faith as well.
Please continue to pray for John & Carole Harris. John is now taking his dialysis at home, four times a day, and Carole gives him his treatments. Carole also receives her chemotherapy weekly. Please pray that these treatments will be effective for both of them. Pray also that Carole continues to not suffer from many side effects from the chemo.
Pray for Jenni Wittig, that all side effects from her chemo and other meds will be minimal, and for healing for her body and for her energy.

Sermon Notes & Scripture
"The Gift Leads to Our Giving"
Pastor Matt Schaffner
Many of us think of things as "ours" but nothing is actually "ours"- it's all a gift from God.
Acknowledging God for who He is and what He has given us is the beginning of our knowledge of Him.
Recognizing God for who He is leads us to desire & ask that His will triumph over our own.
Like any good father, God provides for our needs out of His work.
God is less concerned about our physical needs than our spiritual needs.
As God meets all of our needs it requires our response.
"For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."
Matthew 6:13
Our response is to give to God as we have been given to, to give to others as we have been given to, else we tell God we do not wish to receive anything from Him.
Think about the ways God is calling you to give back this week:
in meeting others' needs (physical, mental, or spiritual)
in forgiving others as you want to be forgiven
in standing strong for those who cannot stand for themselves

Then go be the proof of God's gift given to you.
Monday is coming!
What happens Sunday is only as meaningful as what you do with it the rest of the week. This month we want to take time to cultivate a thankful heart and would encourage you to take the time to say, "Thank You!" to God for all the things He does for you each day. Also, we're going to launch a thirty day reading plan looking at thankfulness this month. Join us as we pursue an attitude of gratitude & work to live a lifestyle of thanks giving!
