Sunday Worship November 11, 2018

We take SO much for granted- things we've seen happen so often we no longer think of them as the little miracles they really are. But, if we stopped to give thanks where it was due, what would our hearts & lives look like? Join us as we take some time out to give thanks where thanks is due and cultivate an attitude of gratitude!

We hope the music inspires you, the message encourages and challenges you, and our people make you feel at home! Thanks for joining us this morning!

Online Giving

Everything we do at Heartland starts with you. Working together, we accomplish more than any of us could alone. We encourage people to give generously as God has given to them, knowing we can't outgive God! If you'd like to be a part of that, you can give online by clicking here or text any dollar amount to 84321.

Sermon Notes & Scripture
"It's About the Giver, not the Gift"
Pastor Matt Schaffner
God is ever and always concerned with the heart.

Luke 21:1-4

Jesus doesn't do anything accidentally. His "looking up" was timed to show the contrast between fauxligious and genuine faith.

Luke 20:46-47

Luke 21:1

God measures the heart, not what we think we see.

Luke 21:2

Jesus is clear- it's not about the portion of the gift, but the proportion.
“Whatever men offer to God ought to be estimated not by its apparent value, but only by the feeling of the heart, and that the holy affection of him who, according to his small means, offers to God the little that he has, is more worthy of esteem than that of him who offers a hundred times more out of his abundance.” –John Calvin
Jesus' point is simple- it's never been about the gift, but the giver.

Luke 21:3

The widow exhibits true faith- understanding all we have came from God, belongs to God, and is for us to use for God’s glory.

Luke 21:4

“Only a completely insensitive person could read the story of the widow and her two [coins] without searching and humiliating self-examination.”
William Barclay
