Once Upon a Time-Jonah (Rachel Bishop)

Once Upon a Time-Jonah (Rachel Bishop)

In this series we'll take a look at four stories from the Old Testament that the world may recognize, but we believers know to be true. They all have elements that teach us specific truths about God and our walk with the Lord.

Take Aways from Last Week:
Takeaway 1: Before we truly step into the calling God has on our lives, like David, we can serve daily and wait patiently for God to make known to us His outcome. This requires trust in God’s plan and God’s timing.
Takeaway 2: God is often equipping us for His greater purposes without us realizing it. Then when His ultimate outcome presents itself we’re ready to bring Him glory.
Takeaway 3: Like David, though we may face giants, we can have faith and believe that they are small when compared to our God. When we see Jesus as David we recognize that it’s not by our power that we overcome, but only through the power of Jesus Christ.

A. Jonah: Called to Go

Jonah 1:1-2

Ephesians 3:20

Take Away: Sometimes God will call us to obey things that don’t make sense or go against the culture. Don’t let pride, fear or comfort cost you the blessing of obedience to His calling.
B. Jonah: Called to Be Saved

Jonah 2:1-2

Take Away: There is no where we can go to get away from the saving grace of God. No matter how far we think we’ve gone, He is always with us.
C. Jonah: Called Again

Jonah 3:1-3

Take Away: Jonah was obedient and God brought a whole nation to repentance. When God calls and we are obedient, the impossible can happen!

D. Jonah: Called to Compassion

Jonah 4:1-2

Takeaway: Jonah was concerned about the temporal matter of Israel’s honor, and had little concern for the eternal matter of Ninevah’s salvation. We need to be concerned with the eternal matters more than the temporal ones.
When God calls, how will we answer?
