Once Upon a Time-David and Goliath (Gordon McClure)

Once Upon a Time-David and Goliath (Gordon McClure)

In this series we'll take a look at four stories from the Old Testament that the world may recognize, but we believers know to be true. They all have elements that teach us specific truths about God and our walk with the Lord.

Gordon McClure, Sr. Pastor

Take Aways from Last Week:
Take away: There is always a holy remnant who serve God even in the midst of corruption, strife, and the challenges of this world. God can empower each of us to stand strong in obedience to Him and give us the courage to be builders in His Kingdom.

Take Away: When God calls us to obey, we must do it even when it doesn’t make sense. His ways are greater than ours. The world may call us to many things, but obeying the voice of God is the key to living a life of faith and righteousness.

Take Away: Just like Noah, we may not fully understand God’s plan for us, but if we are faithful to obey God’s call on our lives we can trust Him with the outcome.

1 Samuel 16:18

1 Samuel 17:14-19

A. David: Called to Serve
Take Away: Before we truly step into the calling God has on our lives, like David, we can serve daily and wait patiently for God to make known to us His outcome. This requires trust in God’s plan and God’s timing.
B. David: Called to Be Equipped

1 Samuel 17:26

Have we as Christians become so accustomed to people bad mouthing the things of God that we no longer become righteously indignant to the point of taking action?

1 Samuel 17:32

1 Samuel 17:34-37

Take Away: God is often equipping us for His greater purposes without us realizing it. Then when His ultimate outcome presents itself we’re ready to bring Him glory.
C. David: Called to Faith

1 Samuel 17:48-51

Malcolm Gladwell writes in his book “David and Goliath” that there were different divisions in the armies of David’s day and there was one that mastered projectiles, which included slingshots. Their accuracy with a slingshot was deadly up to hundreds of feet and David was only a few feet from Goliath.
Take Away: Like David, though we may face giants, we can have faith and believe that they are small when compared to our God. When we see Jesus as David we recognize that it’s not by our power that we overcome, but only through the power of Jesus Christ.

What are the giants in your life and are you ready to let Jesus do the fighting for you?
