THIS PRESENT TIME #33
What Is the Result of Walking With God? 11.26.23

Genesis 5:21-24 NASB Enoch lived sixty-five years, and became the father of Methuselah. 22Then Enoch walked with God three hundred years after he became the father of Methuselah, and he had other sons and daughters. 23So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.

Hebrews 11:5 NASB By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God.

Jude 14, 15 NASB It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, 15to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”

Observing the Landscape

1. What started him on the journey?

2. What did his walk with God look like?

3. What were the challenges he faced?

4. How did his walk with God end?

So today, let’s add 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 NIV and 1 John 2:18-29 NIV to our Scripture lesson to help us understand the conclusion of our walk with God.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 NIV “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18Therefore encourage one another with these words.” ─ Paul

1 John 2:18-29 NIV Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. 19They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. 20But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. 21I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. 26These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. 27As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. 28Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. 29If you know that He is
righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him. ─ John

I. When the Day of The Lord Comes

A. Two issues concerning the Return of The Lord:

1. There are a few evangelicals who view the Return of Christ as symbolic.

2. However, most evangelicals regard the Return of The Lord as literal.

3. Three views regarding the Millennial Kingdom:

a. Christ’s return will be Pre-millennial.

b. Christ’s Return will be Post-millennial.

c. Others are classified as Amillennial (no literal Reign of Christ on Earth).

4. The “Rapture” is viewed through three evangelical lenses:

a. Pre-Tribulation Translation

b. Mid-Tribulation Translation

c. Post-Tribulation Translation

B. At that point our walk shifts to another dimension ─ “so shall we ever be with The Lord.”

C. For those who have died in Christ: The Resurrected Body and Soul are united.

D. For those who are alive when He returns: We are changed in a brief moment, “the twinkling of an eye.”

E. It will be a moment of resurrection, reunion, reward, and restoration.

II. As we approach the Day of The Lord

A. Be aware of the Dominion of Antichrist:

1. Those who deny the Christ (vv.22, 23).

2. Those who desert the Church (v.19).

3. Those who deceive the Christian (v.26).

B. Stand and Stay.

1. Paul says “stand” in Ephesians 6.

2. John says “abide” (or stay inside/alongside) in 1 John 2.

a. Stay in the Word of God (1 John 2:24).

b. Stay in the Church of God (1 John 2:19).

c. Stay in the Spirit of God (1 John 2:27).

d. Stay in the Son of God (1 John 2:28).

Christian Life Lessons

1. The foundation of God’s Kingdom is Holiness and Justice.

· “For this is the will of God - your sanctification.”

· God’s justice is not about vengeance.

· God’s justice is not about “tit for tat.” (“I am not for you or them - I have come to take over.”)

2. We must all appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ Jesus.

· In God’s Grace, some of the greatest rewards come into play at the “last moment.” (See The story of the Eleventh Hour workers.)

· God’s system of judgment involves mercy, reward and much that lies beneath the surface in this realm.

3. It will be worth it all, when we see Jesus.

· “When we see Him, we shall be amazed that we loved Him so little.”

“It will be worth it all, When we see Jesus!
Life’s trials will seem so small, when we see Christ!
One glimpse of His dear face, all sorrow will erase,
So bravely run the race, till we see Christ!”

IT WILL BE WORTH IT ALL (When We See Christ)
