Sermon: God’s purposes are to help His children to become more like Jesus

Introduction

Romans 8:26-30

John 14:15-21

1. The Holy Spirit helps us by praying for us to do God’s will.
1 Peter 2:21-25

A. In our weaknesses.

B. By intercession on our behalf. 1 Corinthians 2:9-12

C. According to the will of God.

2. To conform us to the image of His Son.

A. To those who love God. 1 John 5:1-3

B. Who are called according to His purpose.

C. To be predestined to become conformed to the image of Jesus. Ephesians 1:5

D. For the honor and glory of Jesus. Colossians 1:17-18; Hebrews 1:5-6

3. To give His children confidence that His eternal work is already accomplished.

A. All terms are in the past tense.

B. To know that God is for us.

Application: To become more like Jesus.

1. To see people who come to our church as Jesus sees them.

2. If we are to become like Jesus, we need to become people of grace and truth. John 1:14-17; Luke 7:36-50

Youth Group Friendsgiving Face-Off - November 19, 5:00-7:00pm

We will welcome the Calvary youth group for dinner, pie-games, and a cookie decorating contest. Prizes will be awarded to the best cookie design and losers of the pie-games will "face" the consequences... Dress for mess! Email valerie.harsh@gmail.com with questions.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing - November 24 thru December 24

Gather your family, friends, or small group and come ring the bells for the Golden Extension Unit of the Salvation Army! Ringing takes place at the Golden King Soopers from November 24 - December 24 and at the Golden Safeway from December 17th - December 24th. Ringing slots are two hours. You can sign up using the Sign Up Genius linked below. This is a great activity for families; you could even share the slot between two or three families. All the money raised stays in Golden and is used for temporary rent assistance in order to keep people in their homes. If you have questions, you can contact Jennifer Wilson at jjwilson1to6@msn.com.

New Life Group Opportunity

New Men's Bible Study

Beginning in January there will be a new men's Bible Study meeting twice a month (likely a Tuesday or Thursday morning) to discuss the book “The Man Maker.” The book focuses on developing godly character as men and carrying that into the next generation as we parent our children. Please contact Elliot Makuh to get more info and express interest.
