Throughout History, there have been times where the disconnect between the TEACHINGS and EXAMPLE of Jesus Christ and the ACTIONS AND ATTITUDES of those who claim to be his followers has been exposed.
If we truly know Jesus and follow Him, we will be made like Him and our IDENTITY as a Christian will be evidenced by our TESTIMONY.
If you want to know who God is, look at Jesus.
If you want to know what it means to be human, look at Jesus.
If you want to know what love is, look at Jesus.
If you want to know what grief is, look at Jesus.
And go on looking until you’re not just a spectator, but your actually part of the drama which has him as the central character.

Mark 9:1-10

Philippians 2:6-8

Elijah had been dead for about 900 years and Moses for more than 1400 years but they represented the Law and the Prophets – short hand for the Old Testament.

It’s like the entire Old Testament showed up to say..It’s always been and always will be about JESUS!!!!

Everything the Old Testament Law hoped to provide is now found in Jesus.

Everything that the PROPHETS anticipated is being fulfilled in Jesus.
HOW TO MESS UP GOD’S PLAN FOR YOU LIFE:

1. Make Jesus a Part of Your Life

Jesus will never be part of our life, but will gladly take all of our life.

Following Jesus is more than saying a prayer and accepting him into your heart.

Jesus never said, “say a prayer and accept me.”

You may ACCEPT a SAVIOR, but you SURRENDER to the LORD.
HOW TO MESS UP GOD’S PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE:

2. Try to do Something Great for God

God works in us and through us, but does not work FOR US.

A SURRENDERED LIFE does not attempt to “Help God Out,” but rather walks in the humble obedience of a servant – all GLORY TO GOD!
HOW TO MESS UP GOD’S PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE:

3. Deal with the Frustration that comes from not understanding His Lordship
LESSONS FROM THE MOUNTAINTOP:

1. Mountaintop Experiences are Great, but the Valley is where our Faith Grows.

It’s not more mountaintop experiences we need, but more day-to-day obedience that empowers us to walk by FAITH, not by FEELINGS.
Mountaintop experiences are moments to be STEWARDED, not events meant to be ENSHRINED.
LESSONS FROM THE MOUNTAINTOP:

2. Surrender is not limited to what is BAD in our lives. The Lord wants what is GREAT as well.

This moment for Peter, James and John was about surrendering the GREAT THINGS of your life when they compete against the GOD THINGS in your life.

God will not stand equal with your Moses and Elijah.
LESSONS FROM THE MOUNTAINTOP:

3. We must RE-DEFINE surrender not as LOSING our life, but GAINING our life.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26
