THE BIG SERVE SUNDAY
FOUR POWERFUL IMPACTS WHEN YOU SERVE OTHERS FOR THE GLORY OF GOD
1. THE IMITATION EFFECT (SERVING OTHERS MODELS JESUS)
I am among you as one who serves.
Jesus - Luke 22:27
“. . . and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus - Mark 10:44-46 NLT
In Philippians 2 Paul tells us that Jesus took on the very nature of a servant. That means that he had the attitude of a servant. He was humble. That means he had the desire of a servant. He wanted to serve. That means he had the satisfaction of a servant. He found joy in the act of serving.
Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;
John 13:3
It is not difficult to be like Jesus without serving others.
It is impossible to be like Jesus and not serve others.
Can you say, “I am here, the reason for my existence, the passion of my life, the longing that oozes out of me is this, to be like Jesus’ purpose in life, I live to serve others.”? I mean we don’t think that way at all do we?
2. THE BOOMERANG EFFECT (SERVING OTHERS BLESSES ME)
One person gives freely yet gains even more.
Proverbs 11:24
A generous person will prosper, whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Proverbs 11:25
“Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Jesus - Luke 6:38
3. THE RIPPLE EFFECT (SERVING OTHERS BLESSES OTHERS)
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms... so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 4:10-11
GOD IS BLESSED WHEN HE SERVES ME.
I AM BLESSED WHEN GOD SERVES ME.
I SERVE ANOTHER AND I AM BLESSED.
THE PERSON I SERVE IS BLESSED.
THE PERSON I SERVE IS BLESSED BY SERVING OTHERS.
THE PERSON I SERVED, SERVED OTHERS AND THEY ARE BLESSED.
And on and on it goes.
All the while.
GOD IS BLESSED AND WILL BE PRAISED BECAUSE WE SERVE ONE ANOTHER.
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Sacrificial serving produces a ripple effect
4. THE SPOTLIGHT EFFECT (SERVING OTHERS GLORIFIES GOD)
When I serve others with the right heart attitude I bring glory to God.
. . . whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV
THE SMALLEST PACKAGE IN THE WORLD IS A PERSON ALL WRAPPED UP IN THEMSELVES.
“What you do in the present – by painting, preaching, singing, sewing, praying, teaching, building hospitals, digging wells, campaigning for justice, writing poems, caring for the needy, (building, painting, gardening, repairing bikes), loving your neighbor as yourself – will last into God’s future. These activities are not simply ways of making the present life a little less beastly, a little more bearable, until the day when we leave it behind altogether … They are part of what we may call building for God’s kingdom”.
