Easter Celebration
Galatians 4:4, 5 NASB But when the fullness of the time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons and daughters.
I. Our problem
A. We were created by God — the pinnacle of His creation.
B. We rebelled against our creator, resulting in a fall from which we could not recover.
C. The creator made a way of redemption through the sacrifice of The Lord Jesus Christ on the cross.
D. Our eternal destiny hinges on our response to Jesus.
II. Our salvation
A. Jesus is Divine. He is God who became incarnate - fully God; fully man.
B. Jesus was born of a virgin in order to produce a blood line of purity. He was the only perfect, worthy sacrifice.
C. Jesus lived a sinless life.
D. Jesus died a substitutionary death on the cross.
E. Jesus was physically raised from the dead, and ascended to Heaven where He serves as our Great High Priest.
III. Our special day… Easter!
A. Easter looks back and gives us another chance. “Salvation is an event in the past.”
1. Ephesians 2:8 NIV For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
B. 2 Timothy 1:9 NIV He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.
C. Titus 3:5 NIV he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
D. 1 Timothy 1:15NIV Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.
IV. Our experience is far from finished, but in no way is it incomplete.
A. Easter looks around and gives us meaning in life. “Salvation is an experience in the present.”
1. 1 Corinthians 1:18 NIV For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
2. 1 Corinthians 15:2 NIVBy this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. 1 Peter 2:2 NIVLike newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,
B. Easter looks ahead - and gives us a hope. “Salvation is an expectation for the future.”
1. Romans 13:11 NIV And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
2. Hebrews 9:28 NIV so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
3. 1 Peter 1:3-5 NIV Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
“Because He lives I can face tomorrow.”
