Throughout History, there have been times where the disconnect between the TEACHINGS and EXAMPLE of Jesus Christ and the ACTIONS AND ATTITUDES of those who claim to be his followers has been exposed.
If we truly know Jesus and follow Him, we will be made like Him and our IDENTITY as a Christian will be evidenced by our TESTIMONY.
Mark’s Gospel was written to tell us that God came to earth to bring an all out ASSAULT ON EVIL and to free you and I from any BONDAGE that would keep us from knowing our God, through His Son – Jesus Christ.
If you want to know who God is, look at Jesus.
If you want to know what it means to be human, look at Jesus.
If you want to know what love is, look at Jesus.
If you want to know what grief is, look at Jesus.
And go on looking until you’re not just a spectator, but your actually part of the drama which has him as the central character.

The Kingdom of God:
God coming into the world to reveal and display His POWER, GLORY AND AUTHRORITY over all powers, including the power and control of Satan in this sinful world.

Somehow over time, the religious leaders were able to take this GIFT and make it into a BURDEN.
How Does Well-Intended Zeal Go Bad?
1. We start adding extra RULES to God’s RULES.

The problem is not the extra rules or disciplines you put on your own life to help you bear fruit in Christ.
THE PROBLEM IS WHEN YOU PUT YOUR RULES ON OTHERS.
THE PROBLEM IS WHEN YOU PUT YOUR RULES ON OTHERS.
Aren’t there rules or commands of God that found their way through the cross that still apply now?
The LAW was God’s ways of maintaining relationship with His creation before Christ. It foreshadowed what Christ would accomplish and fulfill.
Now, Jesus is the WAY in which God RELATES to His People.

2. We start using the Bible as BINOCULARS instead of a MIRROR.

Instead of looking into the Word and letting it READ US, showing us more about God and the path ahead for us to grow and become more like him, we start looking to JUDGE OTHERS and question why they are not where we are or where we think they should be.

It is so important that we study, learn, grow, help others to grow in the Word, but not to SEPARATE over MINOR ISSUES.

GOD does not need our help! NEVER HAS and NEVER WILL.
