Frankincense - Our Great High Priest
O Holy Night!

Three Gifts inspired by God himself as they were both useful in the moment and foretold what Jesus would represent:
Gold – the King of Kings
Myrrh – The Suffering Savior or Lamb of God
Frankincense – The Righteous High Priest.
FRANKINCENSE was the key ingredient in the oil of incense burned by the priests in the tabernacle or temple of God to represent the PRAYERS OF GOD’S PEOPLE.
Priests in the OT served one primary role that was broken into two functions.
Representatives of the People before God who:
a. Made sacrifices for the forgiveness of sins
b. Prayed prayers on behalf of the people before God.

ATONEMENT meant that a ransom or payment was made to ‘cover over’ or ‘remove from sight’ the wrong that was done.

JESUS IS NOT A DISTANT SAVIOR THAT FEELS SORRY FOR US. He is our High Priest who understands everything about us and what our journey is like and He cares for us.

He is our great High Priest, the perfect SACRIFICE who sympathizes with our weaknesses as humans.
