But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him. Genesis 37:4, ESV

3/ Joseph was betrayed for silver by a trusted person, just as Jesus was betrayed for silver by a trusted person.

And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. Genesis 37:28, ESV

4/ Joseph was stripped of his coat, just as Jesus was stripped of His robe.

So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe. Genesis 37:23, ESV

(The Ishmaelites) took Joseph to Egypt. Genesis 37:28, ESV

“He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice.” Genesis 39:14, ESV
8/ Joseph was granted favor and success, just as Jesus was granted favor and success.

But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor… And whatever he did, the Lord made it succeed. Genesis 39:21; 23, ESV

9/ Joseph was left to die with two criminals, just as Jesus was left to die with two criminals.

The captain of the guard appointed Joseph to be with (the cup bearer and the baker)… Genesis 40:4, ESV

10/ Joseph went into the pit of a prison, just as Jesus went into the pit of the earth.

“I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.” Genesis 40:15, ESV

11/ Joseph rose to great power, just as Jesus rose to ultimate power.

And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God?” Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discerning and wise as you are. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command. Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you.” And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.” Genesis 41:38-41, ESV

12/ Joseph was 30 when empowered by Pharoah, just as Jesus was 30 when empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Genesis 41:46, ESV

13/ Joseph was sent to Egypt to save lives, just as Jesus was sent to Earth to save souls.

He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. Genesis 50:20, NLT

Although Joseph recognized his brothers, they did not recognize him. Genesis 42:8, NIV

15/ Joseph’s true identity was revealed to his brothers at their second encounter, just as Jesus’ true identity will be revealed to Israel at His second coming.

And on the second visit Joseph made himself known to his brothers… Acts 7:13, ESV

And they called out before him, “Bow the knee!” Thus he set (Joseph) over all the land of Egypt. Genesis 43:43, ESV

17/ Joseph’s suffering served a greater purpose, just as Jesus’ suffering served a eternal purpose.

You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them. Genesis 50:20, NIV

2/ Abel faced unjust persecution, just as Jesus faced unjust persecution.

While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him. Genesis 4:8, NIV

3/ Abel’s blood cried out for vengeance, while Jesus’ blood cries out for forgiveness.

You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel. Hebrews 12:24, NLT

TOWER OF BABEL

Babel brought separation with diversity of language, just as Pentecost brought unity with heavenly language.

MELCHIZEDEK

Melchizedek was a priest-king, just as Jesus is a Priest-King.

Jesus became a priest, not by meeting the physical requirement of belonging to the tribe of Levi, but by the power of a life that cannot be destroyed. And the psalmist pointed this out when he prophesied, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 7:16-17, NLT

SODOM and GOMORRAH

Sodom and Gomorrah were judged in the beginning, just as the earth will be judged in the end.

…(God) condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly. 2 Peter 2:6, NIV

JUDAH

Judah offered himself as a substitute for Benjamin, just as Jesus offered Himself as a substitute for all.

“So please, my lord, let me stay here as a slave instead of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers.” Genesis 44:33, NLT
