FIVE ATTITUDES TO AVOID WHEN COOPERATING WITH GOD
Session Two: Locked Doors and a Cotton Field 4.20.22

Avoiding:
1. Unwillingness
2. Unconcern

1. Unwillingness

A. Luke 13:34 NIV “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

B. A moment of revelation in a cotton field

2. Unconcern

A. Revelation 3:19-22 NLT I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference. 20 “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. 21 Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. 22 “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”

B. We are to be “doers of the Word; and not hearers only.”

Christian Life Lessons
1. He draws us, but He doesn’t force us.
2. Some protection is automatic; some is not.

FIVE ATTITUDES TO AVOID WHEN COOPERATING WITH GOD
Session Three: The Offense of the Mind

Avoiding: 3. Unreasonableness

Isaiah 1:18-20 NASB “Come now, and let us debate your case,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are as scarlet, They shall become as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be like wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient, You will eat the best of the land; 20 But if you refuse and rebel, You will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

Isaiah 55:7 KJV Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Christian Life Lessons
1. Everyone who comes to Christ must ultimately move past the “offense of the mind.”

A. Christianity often seems counter-intuitive.
B. “And you, being a teacher of Israel, do not understand?”
C. Tongues
D. Warfare Tactics

2. His terms; not ours

Romans 1:21-32 NIV For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.
32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
