Deuteronomy 6:1-7

Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the Lord your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it, so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.
The Five Questions:
Who is God and what is truth?
Who was I created to be?
Who are my people and where do I belong?
Am I wise in my relationships?
Why am I here and what is my purpose?
Who is God and what is truth?

Who was I created to be?

“…so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the Lord your God…” v. 2
We are created in the image of God, patterned after the first created humans, and are called to know and follow God.

Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Matthew 6:9
1 Peter 2:9-10

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
We are chosen, blessed, and placed in a forever family.

Am I wise in my relationships?

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. v. 5
Matthew 22:36-39

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. ‘This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
“Relationship” is the most important word in the English language.

Why am I here and what is my purpose?

“These words…shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons…” v. 6-7
Even thousands of years ago, the lure to get caught up in possessions instead of purpose was tempting.
Ephesians 2:8-10

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
