Christianity can be confusing, it certainly was at Corinth. The catastrophe that was the church at Corinth was so bad because they were confused about many things! They were confused about their faith, their world, and how the church should operate. They needed to focus on living out the gospel. Our new message series, "In Focus” will help you have focal points that clarify how we live out our faith in an otherwise strange world.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
We gather for the purpose of remembering Jesus Christ together with our people, the church.
How Important Is It?
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you… v. 23
Galatians 1:15-17
But when God…was pleased to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went away to Arabia…
Why Did Jesus Begin This Just Before His Death?
…the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread… v. 23b
Matthew 26:1-2
He said to His disciples, “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be handed over for crucifixion.”
Exodus 12:13-14
The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. ‘Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance.'
Jesus is saying that what He will undergo on the cross will bring forgiveness and deliverance from the bondage to sin and separation.
1 Corinthians 11:24
“This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
Isaiah 53:4b-5
Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, God, and afflicted. pierced through for our transgressions, our iniquities; chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, His scourging we are healed.
1 Corinthians 11:25
“This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
Hebrews 10:10, 14
By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all…For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
How Should This Affect Me?
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. v. 26
The Lord’s Supper causes us to remember and announce that the gospel of Jesus is the central truth of the Christian life.
