Ghost Stories - Week 1

Legacy Church is real people meeting real needs with the reality of Christ. We weren’t created to go through life alone. That’s why we’re building a community of authentic believers who can grow through life together.

When I was growing up there wasn’t a lot of focus put on Holy Spirit or His work in our lives. I suppose we were taught something about Him but I don’t remember much at all. I believe we need to learn more about Holy Spirit.

I want to spend this month looking into stories of others who have sought to know Holy Spirit, some who have had life-changing encounters with Him, and some stories of being filled with Holy Spirit.

John 14:15-17

John 14:26

Acts 1:6-8

Luke 11:11-13

John 15:26

Ezekiel 36:25-27

Holy Spirit is part of the trinity and through these scriptures, we get an idea of who He is and what He does. Over the next few weeks, we will look at what the Baptism of Holy Spirit is, what the work of Holy Spirit in our lives looks like, what the fruit of Holy Spirit is, and what are the gifts Holy Spirit wants to use in us.

It is important for us to understand what may be the most neglected part of the Godhead. Holy Spirit is misunderstood, treated as weird or spooky. He is misrepresented by some denominations while being almost totally ignored by others.

Holy Spirit was present in creation, has always been God, is the Lord and Giver of life. He is the Creator Spirit and through His power, everything was created. Holy Spirit is an essential part of a believer's life. And though many seem willing to connect to Jesus, and to God as Father, they struggle with connecting to Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit is as much God as the Father and Jesus are.

This is a very important point to me because it has seemed that Holy Spirit was the tolerated part of God at best and the ignored part at worse. But He needs to be neither of these. The Spirit of the Living God needs to be celebrated in our lives. The work of Holy Spirit in the life of the believer is indispensable. He is life to us!

Acts 1:8 tells us that when Holy Spirit comes upon us and fills us, He empowers us to be witnesses and gives us power to do the work of the ministry. The word for power here in Greek is dynamos and it is where we get our word dynamite. Holy Spirit is like dynamite or power inside of us to break things off of us and to set us free. He is power flowing through us to make a difference in the world.

Holy Spirit is a comforter, a helper, a guide, a teacher, a giver of life and so much more. The work of Holy Spirit in our lives and His presence connecting us to Father’s heart cannot be over-emphasized. The enemy has done so much to make it seem weird or spooky so as to keep people away. But we need Holy Spirit! A Spirit-filled, Spirit lead and Spirit yielded

We need the power of Holy Spirit at work in our lives!

2 Corinthians 13:14

There is a fellowship (communion) with Holy Spirit that is available to every believer. Holy Spirit wants to commune with us!

Are you experiencing the grace of Jesus, the love of God, and the fellowship of Holy Spirit in your life?
