authority: the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience

Matthew 28:18-20

Mark 11:23-24

So one day as I was meditating on scripture, thinking about our authority, I thought of how Jesus is called the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. If He is the King of Kings then who are the Kings that He is King over? I suppose that I once just thought this meant He was the greatest King of ever or that He was the King over the kings of the earth. But I now believe it is much more than that. We know He is the first born of many brothers. We know that He, by His death, has brought many sons to God. We know that as He is so are we in this world according to John. So if He is the reigning King who has shared His authority with HIs body, then we are Kings in this earth!

Revelation 1:4-6

Revelation 1:5-6

Believe it or not, I really prefer the way the KJV states this verse. We have been made kings and priest unto God. There is much to say about why the newer versions have change the way this is stated and interpreted it from the Greek but it is also easy in studying it to see why the KJV calls us “kings and priest” and not a “kingdom of priest.” Either way, I believe the argument can be made that we are called to rule and reign with Christ and He has given us authority in the earth.

We have been called to rule and reign with Christ.

The message of sonship, and understanding who we are in Christ, should lead us to the understanding of our authority in the Kingdom of God. As sons grow up they realize they have a job to do in their fathers business. We have been brought into the Kingdom, or born again into the Kingdom of God and have authority as sons of God. We must learn to use this authority. A King without authority is just a figure head that really does nothing but look good for the public. We are called to make a difference!

Ephesians 1:19-23

Ephesians 2:6

Get this, the authority of the heavenly realm has been made available to us! We have the right to speak things, release things, declare things and rule in this life. Romans 5:17 tell us that when we receive the abundance of God’s grace and the free gift of righteousness we can rule and reign in this life. Who rules and reigns? Kings do!

This may seem like like a lofty thought to you. Especially is you have seen yourself as a servant in the Kingdom of God and haven’t understood your sonship in Father God. Or if you are just holding on and hoping you will somehow make it to heaven. There is so much more to our union with Christ than that! He has given you authority!

Only you can make the decision to step into the authority made available in Christ.

Are you ruling and reigning in your life?
