January 31, 2021 | Cross City Core Values Part Four
Real people finding real hope and experiencing real life has a deep meaning to us at Cross City. It’s the story of us. It’s the process we’re going through and the process we want others to go through as well. At the heart of it is the word REAL, which is an important distinction to us. We hear constantly about people trying to “live their best life.” People will seek it, but since God designed us to be in relationship with Him, we’ll never find the best life until we find the only source of real life out there! It’s in HIM! Looking for the best life you can possibly have? It’s only found IN HIM! So this word “real” is how we start, and it leads us to our core statements and strategy. We must start by being authentic, genuine, caring people who realize relationships with our God and with those around us.

Ephesians 4:7-16
But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.” (Now this expression, “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.) And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
John 10:10
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Core Value statements are the biblical priorities we are to constantly pursue.
RELATE—ENGAGE—ADOPT—LEAD
RELATE | Biblically devoted, relationally connected, intentionally compassionate
ENGAGE | Gospel centered, passionately relevant, community focused
ADOPT | Lovingly welcome, authentic community, relentlessly pursue
Core Value #10
We actively seek to serve.
But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Ephesians 4:7
Three principles of spiritual gifts:
1. We all have gifts.
Ephesians 4:7
…to each one of us grace was given…
2. We are all to serve.
1 Peter 4:10
As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
3. We serve for the common good.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good
Christians are called, gifted and placed in the body to serve Christ.
We serve Christ by serving people.
Are you a “consumer Christian” or a “committed Christian?” How are you using your gifts and callings?
Core Value #11
We intentionally replicate disciples
And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ… Ephesians 4:11-12
We serve Christ by equipping people.
How can you help others be ready to serve?
Core Value #12
We are eternally minded in life.
…until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:13
Romans 8:29
For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to. Become conformed to the image of His Son…
We serve Christ by maturing people.
Embrace the Faith, the Person and the Life of Jesus.
When you’re at the end of life, what regrets about eternity will you have?
