Sunday Worship September 23, 2018

Have you ever created a connect the dots masterpiece? It may have been a while, but you probably remember the process. You’d follow the dots and connect them in order and the picture would begin to emerge from that jumbled heap of numbered dots. Faith is similar- there is a sequence of events that helps us become more like Jesus and place His glory on display for all to see. Do you know what that looks like? Would you like to see what can happen when following Jesus makes you look more like Him? Join us as we connect the dots to see what it looks like to really follow Jesus.

Sermon Notes & Scripture
"Connect the Dots: Connecting to God's Church"
Pastor Matt Schaffner

Romans 12:1-8

Faith without fruit is a placebo effect. You're exchanging the power of God for hot air.
Being Jesus' disciple means not simply following, but giving the totality of our life and activities to God's direction.
Just offering our physical lives is not enough. Following Jesus means changing the way we think.
Connecting to the church means understanding that we belong to each other to do what God gave us to do.
There is no gift, position, or leadership that is more important. Each is equal, even if it's not treated that way.

John 13:12-17

Serving like Jesus means humbling ourselves and placing others above ourselves.

Philippians 2:3-5

The baseline for serving is to do it with the same mindset Jesus had- sacrificial humility that puts ourselves aside for others- realizing that the greatest things are accomplished in the smallest of things.
Humble yourself and do the best you can with what God has given you as part of His body, the church.
Monday is coming!
What happens Sunday is only as meaningful as what you do with it the rest of the week. As a church, our number one mandate is to make disciples. A disciple is someone who is connected to Jesus and growing in Christ-likeness as they follow Him. If we're following Jesus, we're saying "Yes" to using what He gave us for His kingdom. This week, say "Yes" to using what God has placed in you for His Kingdom's sake- as you walk out of the sanctuary, find a place to serve and connect to God's church. Then this week read the Next Steps: Serve reading plan and meditate on WHY we serve.

NEXT STEPS: Serve
