The Truth About Temptations (Message #2 -- Faith Forward >>)

When we fail to persevere through life’s trials — we often fall into temptation and reject God for temporal forms of satisfaction and self indulgence. However, we don’t have to be victims of our circumstances. We don’t have to give in or give up. The Bible tells us that when we acknowledge our temptations and face them in God’s strength, we can overcome!

THE TRUTH ABOUT TEMPTATION
FAITH FORWARD >> — Message #2

Dr. Chuck Hill — Trinity Fellowship Church
Sunday, August 19, 2018

James tells us that when we fail to persevere through life’s trials — we often fall into temptation and reject God for temporal forms of satisfaction and self indulgence. However, we don’t have to be victims of our circumstances. We don’t have to give in or give up. The Bible tells us that when we acknowledge our temptations and face them in God’s strength, we can overcome!

13 When tempted no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. 16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
James 1:13-18 (NIV)

James warns us not to be deceived and gives us three challenges to live a life of victory in regards to the temptations that come our way. And the first challenge he offers is this:

1. DON’T PLAY THE BLAME GAME!

We will either see God as the primary focus of our blessings or
we will see God as the primary focus of our blame!

2. TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
Colossians 3:5-10 (NIV)

3. STAND ON THE TRUTH:

Temptation tells you that God is not enough —
but the Bible teaches us that God is more than enough!
