"Why Them?"

Habakkuk 1:12-17

In verses 1-5, Habakkuk laments the evil in the world and asks God how long it would remain.

In verses 6-11, God answers Habakkuk with a bombshell: God was raising up the violent & evil Babylonians to conquer.

Sometimes the answer to our questions only leaves us with more questions.

Fundamental Truth #1: God isn't afraid of us asking questions.

Fundamental Truth #2: God answers & speaks clearly.

Fundamental Truth #3: God's answers are never easy and often not what we want to hear, but exactly what we need to hear.

While an answer from God often leads to more questions, He will always speak. The question is whether we are listening to Him or to our desires.

Today, repent of your pride in substituting easy answers for God's Words and ask Him to reveal His truth in answer to your questions, no matter how difficult the answers may be!

A Benedictine Blessing:
May God bless us with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships so that we may live deep within our hearts.
May God bless us with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people so that we may work for justice, freedom and peace.
May God bless us with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation and war, so that we may reach out our hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy.
May God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a difference in this world, so that we can do what others claim cannot be done. Amen.

Monday is coming!
What happens Sunday is only as meaningful as what you do with it the rest of the week. As we study Habakkuk, it's going to be challenging. It is easy to challenge, but hard to be challenged. As men and women of God, we must be willing to do both. Listen for God's voice and where He is challenging you- then accept the challenge and change. Talk with someone about the change God is calling you to and have them hold you accountable so you have someone journey with you!

This week, take some time to read Habakkuk 2.1-5 as we prepare for next Sunday. Pray God would speak through it to you, look at what it says, maybe write down any questions, and then thank God for what He spoke to you!
