HOW TO START A REVOLUTION
Turn The World Upside Down
ACTS 17:1-15

“These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here . . .”
Acts 17:6 NIV

“These people who have been turning the world upside down have come here also . . .”
Acts 17:6 NRSV

1. AN EFFECTIVE STRATEGY:

When Paul and his companions had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue…
Acts 17:1-2a

Why Thessalonica?
As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.
Acts 17:10

Why Synagogue first?
As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures…
Acts 17:2

2. A COMPELLING MESSSAGE:

As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah,”
Acts 17:2-3

3. A COMMITTED MESSENGER:

How committed was Paul? So far, in the book of Acts we see . . .

•People tried to kill him when he was just converted and was in Damascus
•They tried to kill him when he went to Jerusalem
•On their first Missionary Journey Paul and Barnabas were expelled from Pisidian Antioch because they preached the gospel
•In Iconium Paul and Barnabas discover a plot to assassinate them so they escaped to Lystra
•In Lystra a group from Pisidian Antioch rallied a number of dissenters and had Paul stoned to death, dragged him out of town and left him for dead in a ditch for wild animals to consume
•In Philippi Paul, along with Silas, was flogged, thrown in stocks and locked in an inner jail
•Paul and Silas had to escape from Thessalonica because of an angry mob
•When in Berea a group from Thessalonica came to cause trouble, Paul had to leave for Athens

What are you committed to?
Are you committed to Jesus?
